Prints are suddenly rough and "spiky"

Hello together!

I'm quite helpless now. I really got quite impressive good prints with my upgraded Prusa i3 MK2S. But suddenly (from one day to an other) my prints are rough and spiky (see pics, left before, three right now; the left of the three right is the best i can get now). So I startet playing around... for hours and hours!! Retraction (length, speed), Extrusion Multiplier, Speed (in general) (and many more), with no big difference. I even changed the nozzle (from stock to Prusa hardened steel). Only "external perimeters first" was a little improvment but even not as good as before with "normal" orientation.

My setup:
· ABS (Verbatim), 235°C/90°C with glue
· 0,05 mm (it has to be very detailed inside)
· 100% infill (it has to be very solid)
· Extruder and e-Steps calibrated
· all other settings (except calibrations) stock 0,05 mm Detail slic3er Prusa edition settings
· I'm printing in an enclosure (30°C inside)
· filament is stored in a dry box

Anybody any idea what this could be? It's so strange becaus I also googled for hours and found nowhere a quite similar problem. It's no overextrusion I think. And for sure no seam (setting "nearest"). So what it could be?

Thanx in advance for any help!

Re: Prints are suddenly rough and "spiky"

Hello Ivo!

Could it be a bearing that has gone bad?
Test to move the x-axis as well as y-axis by hand and see if there are any spots on the rods that are somewhat harder to move the axes on. Or there may be other causes that hinders the axes to move freely - so try to think of all possible causes to that (e.g cable routing etc.).

Hey Henrik!

Thank you very much for your reply! I checked all bearings, axes... almost all hardware. Also did a complete new calibration. Everything seems to be perfect. But after some further tests... (and if this is the problem... mea culpa!) I fear it's just moisture filament. I don't understand why because I always stored it in the sealed box, but all signs goes this direction. So I will dry the filament and will post the results.

Ok, just for info: it was overextrusion. After calibrating the extruder I put the Extrusion-Multiplier 1.05. This was the problem. Even if I measured everything many many times and did all tests (with cube) many many times and the numbers should be right... I just have to leave 1 for the Extrusion-Multiplier and everything's (almost) fine. I will open another thread for this question.
