Print quality issues

Hello

I have a lot of print quality issues with my new printer, mainly with ABS and overhangs.

I have been in contact with support and they told me to try to post my problems here.

The last 4 days I have been tested with different models but I found the 3dbenchy model "best" where I could really see where my printer have problems.

This is printed with:

Hotend: 250
HeatBed: 100
Infill 25%
Layer: 0.10mm
Filament: Prusa ABS
Silcer: Simplify3D with profile from Prusa
Firmware: 3.0.6

Re: Print quality issues

My first guess would be that your temperatures a bit too high. I'd try setting the Hotend to 230°C and the bed to 90°C and see if that helps.

The brown marks look like burnt filament which I have seen on my own prints when I first started out.

The official settings for Prusa's ABS (white) filament is:
220 °C - 240 °C printing temperature
80 °C - 100 °C heated bed temperature

The official Benchy settings are:
Scale: 1:1 (unmodified in size, from bow to stern #3DBenchy.stl measures 60.00 mm).
Layer height: 0,2 mm
Infill: 10%
Print speed (extrusion): up to 50 mm/s
Print speed (travel): up to 150 mm/s
Print nozzle diameter: 0,4 mm

Re: Print quality issues

What 3Delight said. Also, I would turn on the fan, but limit the fan to 25-50%. The fan is important for cooling each layer enough to print the next layer. If the layers are too hot, the lower layers stay molten and wander about underneath the nozzle, often pushing material high enough to stick to the nozzle and slowly burn. Later, the burned bits get wiped onto the print, as you saw. You need all previously printed layers to be solid and warm, but not molten.

(At 100% fan the cooling would probably be too much. The nozzle would only barely maintain its temperature and the layers wouldn't adhere to each other. I learned that the hard way.)
