Mk2 Prusa supplied test print model quality

Assuming the MK2 has been calibrated and set up properly, should the Prusa supplied test print models on the SD card print correctly without changing settings?

Printing the Prusa flat nameplate model works fine.

Printing the Marvin model:
- Stock settings (select from SD card and print).
- Vertical surfaces (legs) print very well.
- Overhangs are horrible, with curling upward of the overhangs. The nozzle actually interferes with the curls and pushes them down as it prints, then the plastic bounces right back up after the nozzle passes.
- Print article is adhered nicely to the printing surface so tipping is not a concern.
- Using PLA brassfill provided by Prusa (a roll that comes with the kit purchase)

I was under the assumption that the test print models should run as-is without much user customization.

- Have 3.0.2 firmwarwe installed.
- Calibration checks ok.
- Have watched the first print and calibration video.

Not sure what else to try other than diving into temps, fan speeds, movement speeds, slic3r settings, etc. I thought corrective actions for the provided models would be unneccesary to start with.

Any suggestions on further MK2 setup checks? Could it be the filament?

Thank you.

Hi Mark

I would suspect the filament/print speed.

The models as supplied will print fine with regular PLA. Exotic filaments can requite quite different settings and from the description of the problem, it does sound as though you are printing way too fast for the filament.

Try turning the feed rate down to (say) 60% or even lower and see how that goes. Or just try the test prints with regular PLA filament.

Thanks for the insight. I kind of wondered about the filament and will take you up on the advice. I'll be needing other normal filaments anyway, so will order some soon.

In the mean time I'll continue test non-overhang models with the brassfill for or our steampunk gear.

So far I'm impressed with the quality of the kit, despite a few fitment problems with the printed parts.

Yea from what i understand the very first kits that came out (mine was one of them) had a few printed pieces that were off the mark slightly.

I belive thats been fixed now 🙂 (im sure my incoming upgrade kits will be just fine)

Hi, the supplied models should work flawlessly without any changes. I can recheck the Marvin gcode tomorrow. Does your print fan work?

Erron,
I cracked a part or two in non critical areas, but don't think it will affect anything. Will print backup parts once get it going good.

Josef,
I hear the fans, so believe the fans are working. I guess there's two of them so I'll check to make sure both are spinning when I get back home. I did notice the "fan speed" in the "live adjust" setting was showing zero while printing though.
Thanks for the guidance.
