Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
Hello! I just got my Mk2 yesterday and on about half of the prints I have done it is pausing mid print and refusing to finish. The hot end and bed stay heated, but the print head stops moving. Any suggestions?
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
-Are you printing from SD or using USB cable ?
-Are you printing examples from the SD card ?
-Do you have unit plugged into UPS ?
-Can you try to print out the smallest example
-Which slicer are you using ?
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
I'm using the PB supplied Slic3r, printing from card. I checked the code and it was complete (all the stuff that starts with semicolons at the end was in there when I opened it into text edit). I have now tried switching to a new SD card, and was able to get the model to print OK, so I am thinking the glitch might have been with the SD that came with the printer. Testing the other files now.
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
Problem is repeated with new SD card, and now the printer is misreading the SD card, I'll select one file on it and it starts printing a different file on the card. Is the SD card reader bad?

Put the SD card back into the PC and open one of the failed GCode files. See if it complete - probably is not.
Make sure you allow the slicer to complete saving the GCode before transferring it to the SD card and before you remove the SD card from the printer, use the "Safely remove..." option.

Check your cable routing from Display to the box. And also check the connectors.

Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
The Gcode is complete, the model printed from the same file/SD card earlier today without a hitch, but I also put it into a text editor to make sure and it ends with all of the semi-colon stuff at the end a code file should have. Connectors are tight both on LCD and on the board. I am attempting to print via Pronterface/USB now with a large print to see what happens.
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
It's very possible the SD Card has become corrupt. I had the same problem recently and changing SD cards fixed it.
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
Switching to one of my own SDs was the first thing I tried, the problem persisted. I've run the same Gcode through Pronterface now twice and no issues, as well as another model. Tried one more time on LCD and it happened again (along with starting to print a model I didn't select.) At this point, everything has been eliminated but the LCD. If it was the main board, it wouldn't print via USB/Pronterface, if it was a defective SD it wouldn't happen with a new one. And if the Gcode was bad, it wouldn't print successfully some of the time (and I know the Prusa models that came with the unit are fine, everyone prints those without issues.) Should I ask for a replacement LCD at this point?
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
Possibly interference from the stepper motors to the data cable? A simple solution would to temporarily wrap the data cable in aluminum foil and/or temporarily place the LCD and cables away from the stepper motors.
See if you can transfer the gcode from the computer to the SD card using the USB connection. Octoprint has an option to upload the Gcode to the SD card. Verify the file on the SD card matches to the file you originally started with.
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
I made extensions for the data cables, and the sd card does not work when I connect both cables. But the sd works with either cable extension when used alone. Everything else works with both cable extensions.
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
One data point: I have another 3D printer and the cable running to the LCD / card reader is wrapped in foil.
If your issue is related to EMF from the stepper influencing data bits read from the SD card then another experiment would be to create a Faraday box/cage to place around the bottom stepper motor, but the box would be missing one side that face up so heat can escape. The Faraday cage could just be a 3D printed enclose with the insides covered with aluminum tape.
Question: Did you modify the layout of your MK2? For example, do the SD / LCD cable cross the power cable going into the PSU or is it anywhere near the PSU?
Re: Mk2 pauses mid print- help!
I didn't build it, I bought it pre-built from Prusa.
