Mk1 upgrade part fan problem.
Hi Folks,
I upgraded my Mk1 to Mk2 a short while ago, and initially I was getting overcooling from the part fan, leading to thermal runaway... so I have been running the fan at reduced speed....
Now I am getting undercooling, as the fan bearings seem to have worn. I recently re oiled the bearings which resolved the issue for a short time, but the problem's returned...
I don't particularly want to put the fan back to 100% in case it decides to run at full speed and cause thermal runaway... so I guess it's time to replace it...
is this a common issue with re used Mk1 fans....
would it be reccommended for others doing the Mk1 upgrade, to replace the fan whilst building, rather than having to undo and re bundle the the cables a couple of weeks later?

I believe that E3D Online has the replacement fan from what I understand.
and an 8 inch (200mm) or greater caliper is recommended.

The fans are available from many places (eg Banggood: http://www.banggood.com/5Pcs-3D-Printer-12V-DC-50mm-Blow-Radial-Cooling-Fan-p-1004533.html?rmmds=search ).
Best just to cut the wires at the extruder end and either solder or maybe add a plug and socket.
These fans do wear out; I have a few spares having changed mine a few times already but I do have a quite dusty environment.

I was wondering about fitting a plug ans socket, is that likely to shake loose with the motion of the extruder?

Depends on the arrangement, but if it did I think you would probably notice... Mine has not had an issue.

The E3D fans don't need to be cut at the extruder as the lead is designed to be long enough where you could just recrimp a new connector at the end and use them that way. 1 meter length (1000mm) is standard with most E3D fans and is plenty long enough to reach the extruder and then some in my experience.

The E3D fans come with a connector as well (in fact every fan I bought comes with the standard 2-pin female), so there is no need to change it.
However, the biggest issue is not having to take time to re-wire and re-sleeve the cable bundle; it's the having to remove the extruder to free the cable from under the hook just above the probe.
Best to cut the existing wire as close to the old fan body as possible and have a loop of wire with a plug on the end. That way, there is almost no dis-assembly required.
