issues with z axis

Having issues with the 2 Z axis motor not matching heights after a print. The first 1.0 mm of the print job worked perfectly, but then the right motor started to get higher than the left motor as the job progressed.

At the end of the print job, the distance between the heatbed and the rod that the extruder is attached to is 42 mm on the left side and 53 mm on the right side. The object that was printed was 10 mm tall. See the attached picture.

The printer is a MK2 with 3.1.0 firmware and before this print job, I went through the selftest, calibrate xyz and first layer before this print job.

How do I troubleshoot this? I've tried a few different stl files with the same results.

Re: issues with z axis

The connection to your left motor is most likely interrupted in some cases (broken cable, loose connection). Especially if it's working sometimes, I would bet on a cable. Try to find the broken piece.
Other option is something is blocking the movement, Check if the motor can move freely and nothing stuck.

Motor itself and the stepper driver would be the last thing I would guess. They are pretty rock solid.

Re: issues with z axis

Did you solve you problem yet?

If not, does it make and difference when you change the mode from Hi-Power to Silent? Hi-Power drives the steppers with a might current value. Not a solution but it might give more clues to this problem.

I notice you are running firmware 3.1.0. In that version of firmware, then introduced an "Auto Power Mode" (and I think it is the default). The stepper power is adjusted between the silent mode and the Hi-Power mode depending on the Z height. If you have higher than normal drag on the bearings or steppers, then this might be causing issues.
