Is it a material tweaking thing, or what?

On the left is, literally, the prettiest Benchy I've ever printed, in PLA, using the most recent Prusa-specific Slic3r.

On the Right is the Benchy I printed just before, in ABS. You can tell there's a pretty considerable difference in quality.

I don't have much ABS and what I do have isn't fresh, but I've also notices the parts cooling fan doesn't run while the printer is printing ABS (yeah, I know it's a PLA feature, but a little part cooling can really help with...well, things like the smokestack on Benchy here.

Is it unrealistic to expect the same quality Benchy in ABS as PLA? Is it a niche for tweaking, or just too much to expect for the material? Do you get awesome Benchy results with brand new out-of-the-bag ABS?

You generally wont get as much detail in ABS as PLA - but there's no hard and fast rule - but its benchy hes supposed to be a stress test 🙂

I'm completely okay with PLA = Pretty, ABS = Structural

ABS needs to be printed slower here (chimney melted). You cant use the fan, so play with the autocool to slow down more when the layer time is dropping. Maybe it is even then not enough for that detail with ABS
