i3Mk2 Set up and Calibration

I ordered the i3 Mk2 as soon as it became available, hoping for a well made, stable machine with the benefits of a large print area, auto calibration of Z axis and a metal frame. I assembled it one week ago, and am still trying to make it work consistently, and to get it basically calibrated. I am an experienced user and maker of reprap style printers, so the only thing new to me here is the metal frame and the auto bed levelling. I have done everything suggested in the manual and help videos and followed the forums for advice, but still cannot get the bed 'level' or achieve a consistent printing experience - I have spent at least 40 hours on this so far. As suggested in other forum posts, I have made a video showing aspects of my setup experience, available here:

...if I've missed anything, or there is any advice anyone can give me, I would be very grateful.

Hi!
I can't give you any advice but I am mostly in the same boat. I have spent so much time calibrating this printer and have had little or no luck. I too bought this to be a stable good quality printer and have not seen that come to fruition. At the end of your video you said that when you get to your printer the issues are always different, and I agree with that statement! It'll work in one moment and not in the next.

Good luck in your endeavors!

Hello Mortimer,
can you please post here your V2 calibration you have on your SD card? Also what version of firmware you have?

Re: i3Mk2 Set up and Calibration

Hi Mortimer

I think you have written a rather conflicting sentence there; had you wanted a well made, stable printer then surely you would have purchased the Mk1 and not the Mk2 with all the new features which have not as yet been fully tested by users?

Unfortunately, Prusa Research have (for whatever reason) released kits to new users rather than upgrades to existing and very happy users. This has meant that very few of us that knew just about everything to know about the Mk1 can't help much with the Mk2.

What I will say is that when you sort out your problems, I am very confident that you will find the Mk 2 to be the best printer you own.

Peter

Please note: I do not have any affiliation with Prusa Research. Any advices given are offered in good faith. It is your responsibility to ensure that by following my advice you do not suffer or cause injury, damage…

Hello Mortimer,
the g-code looks ok, can you try to flash this firmware "1_75mm_MK2-RAMBo13a-E3Dv6full.hex" ( https://github.com/prusa3d/Prusa-Firmware/tree/MK2/hex_files )? It's the most recent one available only on github at the moment.

Re: i3Mk2 Set up and Calibration

I notice on the screen that you had the motors set to silent mode. This mode is a know problem. Try it on the other setting. Maybe you are missing a step or two.
