HotEnd Temperature Sensor

I have been having a wonderful time with my Prusa i3 Mk2. Until I messed up.

I had a failed print, and the head was covered with a blob of molten PLA. I used some pliers to pull it off, and in the process pulled off the wires for the temperature sensor on the hot end. They came loose from where they were soldered to the red/black wires that go down to the electronics.

No problem, right? So I soldered the wires back on the red/black ones, and yet I still get no temperature reading and can't fire anything up. Same reading as if it was not connected. Changed polarity (just in case) and same result.

I would like to fire up the hot end (even without the temp sensor) to melt off some of the plastic, but it of course prevents that (since it can't tell the temp which would be unsafe unattended.)

Any ideas? Do I need to replace the thermal couple? If so, how can I override the temp sensor so that I can remove some of the melt on the hot end?

Thanks in advance,

Aaron Seltzer

Re: HotEnd Temperature Sensor

Can you put a temporary resistor in place of the thermistor?
guessing try 33k... or use a 100k potentiometer and dial in your preferred DISPLAY temperature... beware this will not control the hot end temperature, so you will have to be aware and switch the power off before it gets too hot.

Thanks Joan, I will give that a try. If I determine the sensor is an OPEN, and needs to be replaced, which sensor is it? When I google I get a bunch of different ones, even for the E3Dv6.

To be honest Ajs. I dont recall which ones i got. They were cartridge type to go with the later larger heatblock.

Other than that. Sorry... no idea.
