Heatbed LED not working and frayed wires
Hey all,
My heatbed LED wasn't coming on so I decided the take the cover off the lead to investigate. LED looks fine but as you can see below the connection on the left seems to have split and frayed a bit. Could this be the cause? The bed heats up fine so I'm just wondering if I should solder up that wire while I have the cover off?

This is not really a probem.
Resolder the wires and it's OK again, but this does not solve the problem with the LED. The LED is maybe blown. Can you exchange it ?

swap the wires, most likely that the polarity has been mixed up.
for simple heating the polarity isn't relevant... but for the LED to light up.
anyhow: fix the issue with the frayed wire ends ! because the heatbed draws about 15 amps, every little bit of wire is required.
maybe this is a good time to replace the whole cable with a new one @ 2.5mm² conductor cross-section.

Yup, that was it! Put a bit of solder on that wire for now. We have lots of reels of wire at work so should be able to find something suitable for a replacement.

14 AWG silicone insulated wire would be a good choice.

hmmm... quite at the edge with the 14 awg. if I had the choice, I would go for 12 awg.
2.5mm² metric would be just in between both imperial gauge sizes... so 13 awg would be perfect

Yeah, I used 2.5mm^2 speaker cable. Bit stiff, but it's been working for almost 12 months.
