Dual Extrusion

Hi,

I'm using Prusa i3 MK2. Works great. I'm thinking about upgrades. How feasable is it to upgrade the extruder to dual one? I've seen the E3D Chimera: http://e3d-online.com/Multi-Extrusion/Chimera dual extruder there online, but not sure if it is possible to use with the prusa. Also those extruders do not come with motors. Not even sure how to hook up the two motors 🙂

I'd appreciate any feedback.

There is also quad extruder: http://e3d-online.com/The-Kraken-Fully-Loaded which seems to be an overkill 🙂

Thanks,
Ruben.

There have been some hints recently that Prusa Research may have a dual (or multi) extruder option in the very near future. If I were you, I'd wait a few weeks...

Re: Dual Extrusion

At this moment, the RAMBo mini is only able to drive 1 extruder so you would have to upgrade the RAMBo mini to a full RAMBo which has circuitry for 2 extruder motors.

Sure, I'll just wait. How about the firmware. Does it support dual extruders or I would need something custom?

Certainly worth thinking of different option just incase Josef does not come through this time 😉 I expect he will but just incase we do need to look at moving on from a single and join many other duals out there.
