Do buildplate bolts affect heating?

I'm wondering if the two central bolts in the buildplate of an i3 Mk2 make for uneven heating. I'm getting curl-up. Filament is Taulman In-PLA. Notice that the curl happened in the corner right above the bolt ... and that has been a persistent occurrence.

Any thoughts or experience would be appreciated.

So before I start moving all my models around to "avoid the bolts" ... I'm *really* curious: if

* anyone has seen this issue around the bolt locations, or

* has any reason to suspect that this might be an issue, or even

* had done lots of curl-prone prints without every seeing this issue so that I can avoid shifting all my prints ...

Thanks for any thoughts / info you might have!

Hi Clint, I have never noticed a problem with the bolts,

it looks like you have a brim on the model, so I would expect that model to stick to the build plate quite well. however, however, it doesn't seem to stick.
it looks quite severe warping, have you tried a lower temperature for the filament on higher layers. ? this may help curb the curling.

you can try moving the print away from the bolts, but I would think that the issue is somewhere else.

have you cleaned the build plate?
could you try turning the model 90 degrees? this may help...

regards Joan

Thanks for the suggestions Joan!

In my particular situation, I have managed to "curb the curling" (sounds like the title for an article ... although the World Curling Federation might take exception). However, I was still interested if bolt-avoidance is warranted, in cases where a *slight* heatbed variation might make the difference between curl or no-curl. Found this thermal image in the Prusa archive of posts (edited to isolate the thermal image for just the Mk42 Heatbed):

... and this does seem to imply that, in borderline situations, bolt-avoidance might be warranted!

Thanks again for the help!

Have you checked that your live z is really squished down properly, and cleaning with Aceton?

I have never heard or considered this myself.

Thanks Gert ... Yes I have taken many steps toward improved HPB adhesion, and am now successful sticking all my prints.

However, I continued with this idea of bolt-avoidance ... which seems to be a *slight* and *minor* issue, but one that might be worth consideration if you're on the limit of adhesion. I think if just one corner is gonna curl, it's gonna be the one over the bolt.

Re: Do buildplate bolts affect heating?

Fair enough.

I have had times of bad adhesion too. In my case it always have been bad cleaning. Going from ABS to PLA really needs a good scrub down in my case..
