Diamond hotend

Hi,
Just received my my i3 mk2 and want to install a diamond hotend. So wanted to know if anyone else has already got a diamond hot end up and running?
Also how did you do they auto calibrate without the probe? and did you have to modify the cooler shield? I'm finding that the 2 holes for the screw are 7mm to far apart. thanks in advance!

Re: Diamond hotend

Well, to run a Diamond hot end, you need to be able to drive 3 extruder motors at the same time - something that the RAMBo mini is not capable of.

You therefore need to upgrade the controller board. You would also need to move to a Bowden system and locate the 3 extruder motors where you see fit.

Personally I think this is the wrong printer to use for this purpose, but if you do really want to go down that path, then I wish you luck!

In order to calibrate the bed/nozzle height without an induction probe, you can implement a servo/microswitch setup.

BTW, in both cases you will have to locate firmware which will work with your printer.

Has firmware and pointers on how to do this. People there have adapted a generic Prusa i3 so you certainly can modify the MK2(S) to do this also. It think the multi-material upgrade may be better supported, but you only get individual colors, not mixes.

You would need a new control board, and at that point it certainly would not be a MK2(S) any longer.....

I think a generic i3 might be a better starting point, as mounting a PINDA to the Diamond would not be easy, but someone might have done it.

Good luck.

To me the ability to intentionally mix colors is half the point of multi material. If you are able to successively mod your Prusa to do so please post about it.
