Customer Support

So after spending $1000, 16 hours of putting it together, and updating to the latest firmware. and watching the same video over and over again. reading the manual. looking for something on how to set up the probe. I go online and ask some technical question which shouldn't be hard to answer. There polite and helpful person told me I wasn't "normal" and to read the manual. I told him to f off I have never been so insulted.
This is what i asked him
so i leveled the machine i have everything good and level all 3 axis are good. So i run check axis routine hear the x click hear the y click and the probe about 2mm from the table top and it moves 150mm off the table and reset z to zero at this point. that doesnt seem right to me. So I move the axis in manual and for every 001.0 move the z is moving 1cm at a time when the other axis are moving 1mm increments. He said did you run the V2 calibration routine. I said how do you do that? he said it was .gcode. so i calibrated the Z my probe was set lower than the build instructions because i didnt want to crash the z into the table. I ran the program from the sd card and it broke the tip off. i asked the "nice guy" where the probe was to bet set and, told him I am a mechanical engineer I'm being spefic because this doesn't make sense? And thats the answer i got. Thanks Mr Prusa, I will be sending this back.

Re: Customer Support

The manual is very specific on were to set the probe, which is probably why the representative referred you to the manual. As far as you being insulted, you should probably understand that Prusa is based in the Czech republic, and while all of their reps speak English, it may not be their first language. Im sure the rep was saying YOU SITUATION wasn't normal, not that YOU weren't normal 😆

Your head was probably crashing into the bed because the probe was not lining up with circles on the bed.

Plenty of folks and Prusa are willing to help, you just have to be patient yourself.

Re: Customer Support

Jeff

I have in the past and on many occasions been very critical of Prusa Research, but in this instance I am amazed at what happened to both your printer and you.

I cannot recall anyone else experiencing the problem that you describe (and I am pretty sure that if it had happened elsewhere it would have been posted here).

The Prusa support staff are pretty good and they will usually give very good advise, even if it is simply that they don't know and they will refer it to the tech department. And as Erron says, there are few native English speakers taking support. The support issue may even have been initiated by you (not deliberately).

Unfortunately, many aspects are counter-intuitive (especially to engineers - and yes, I am one) and sometime it is necessary to do exactly to opposite to what you would expect.

However with all that being said, it does appear that there is a fault with your printer with regards to the Z axis, whether that be a build or hardware issue is difficult to define with the information you have given.

I think you should contact support again and give them a link to this thread.

I'm not critical when someone says "the machine is for "normal" people. You are not normal you should read the manual. You know what's wrong is the Rambo board is poached and he is too under trained to understand.

Re: Customer Support

Here is my update

The gentleman working customer service apologised to me in an email. It turns out on the zip file that is to be downloaded with all the hex and driver that there are corrupt files you can mistaken as good files I of course installed the wrong file because of poor instructions. Either the belt was too tight or no lubrication on the rails that caused my motor to make a horrible crunching sound. Recommended oil was vegetable oil. If this company wants to take this to the next level having trained techs that can work out problems without coming across as rude is key. My wife was blown away with what she was reading. At least it works now i just need to learn settings, running PLA my maker bot at work runs at 220, 210 seems too cool. i printed Marvin and it was a little stringy. 220C produced a much better finish fyi.

Re: Customer Support

Its not your fault the P.I.N.D.A decided to hit the deck. It is Prusa's fault as they know it is a problem with the machine. They have just released a new firmware to try and combat it.

I am reluctant to try it if its not a proper release?

"RC" means Release Candidate. In the language of software developers it means "We hope it is without bugs, if you're brave, try it". 😉

Re: Customer Support

Aha. Thank you 😆

Ok I will leave it with what came with the printer until I hear otherwise. I am slowly catching up with the 21st century and computing 😳 😀

Re: Customer Support

I'm still pretty happy with 3.0.3. There are some known bugs in that version, but I'm taking them into account and ... so far so good. No need to upgrade.

Re: Customer Support

Yes, as David says, but I am extremely happy with 3.0.6RC. Running perfectly so far.

But then I am not using Cura 2.
