Best Remote Control

Hello,

I have installed Octoprint to my old Macbook core2duo laptop and I did not like the interface....

What is your opinion for remote controlling the printer with an old macbook, Pronterface, Octoprint or Simplify3d Printer Controller?

Only advantage of Octoprint is you don't need teamviewer for remote controlling, it can be controlled through remote browser....

Thanks

Re: Best Remote Control

using OctoPrint from a computer, being Mac or PC, is not the best case for me.

Using a RPi, or any equivalent SoC (BananaPi, Odroid ...) is better to me as this box will consume way lower electricity, will be dedicated so switched on 24/7, and you can use your computer as a computer do, rebooting for unkown reason, patching, playing, fixing (yes I know, Mac is cleaner on this side).

The most lacking feature for me on Octoprint is that I do not see how to graph additionnal data, like sensor plugged on gpio ports. If you know how to do that, I'll love to hear how to do it !

I'm like Jon Snow, I know nothing.

Maybe take a look at Repetier-Server.com. I wasn't all that thrilled with Octoprint either, so Repetier-Server is what I ended up using.
Added Bonus: i can control 3 printers with the same instance on a RasPi3: Big downside: its not opensource/freeware.

I found an app called GCodePrintr, which runs on android device with an OTG cable. I think I will be good with it. I will try and let you know.

Yes Mac is definetely cleaner no risk of a unexpected reboot. But as you mentioned 65w is too much power consuming, actually I should check power consuption is

What about and android tablet instead of a rasperry pi? I found an app called Gcodeprintr....

Re: Best Remote Control

just think how you're trying to add technology, hardware, operating systems and software to a thing that works best without. I don't think Android is a step in the right direction 🙂

😀

All I am trying to do is sending gcodes to the printer remotely and be able to stop it in emergency when I am away.

It is really a pain in the ars to deal with the SD card. If I connect to my printer with a USB it is nearly impossible to send files to SD card through USB. Lets say you succeed, if you unplug USB Printer resets.

So we need something celever:)
