Bed leveling not functioning after switching hotends

Hi!

I managed to pull off one of the leads to the thermistor in my hotend and when i tried to remove it, the screw holding the thermistor in place was ruined (human error on my part I believe, tried turning it the wrong way initially). I bought a new hotend (E3D v6) and installed it.

Up until this incident everything on the printer has been working flawlessly, cue my frustration.
I run the calibrations and everything is working as it should, the printer reports that all is as it should be and the hotend extrudes plastic just fine.

I run the v2calibration print and start to adjust Z-level.
The hotend was nowhere near the printbed and keeps moving upwards the further along the calibration print it goes. Earlier I had -0,45mm Z adjust, now I had to add -1,5mm and it was only during the first part of the print that the hotend was anywhere near the heatbed.
After the initial calibration print, when I try to run additional calibration prints the printer stops with an error message "Bed leveling failed. Sensor triggered too high. Waiting for reset."

I've tried lowering and raising the Pinda probe, running the calibration again and I get the same result. I've done the autohome calibration to check that the nozzle is close enough to the print bed. I don't have a feeler gauge but the nozzle is as close as I can get it without touching the printbed (I can drag a paper underneath it).

How do I proceed?

Re: Bed leveling not functioning after switching hotends

It is hard to tell from your description, but it sounds like your Z axis is no longer perpendicular to the bed,

Move the head around when it is a bit up, and see where on the bed is too high and where it is too low, and see how to adjust the machine (what has become un-square). Pictures might help us.

For a better method to set the Live Z look at this post:

Re: Bed leveling not functioning after switching hotends

Hi!

I spent the afternoon troubleshooting and after measuring, remeasuring untightening, retightening I finally came to the conclusion that the left Z-stepper kept loosing steps which resulted in an uneven X-axis (see picture). The problem got gradually worse which might be why I didn't notice it at first.

I googled around a bit and read that the "dustcovers" for the Z-steppers might be the culprit. I tied it down 2 cm above the stepper and now everything works smooth.

I am however eager to find a more permanent solution so any advice on how to proceed will be very appreciated.
