Single extruder printing

Hi, if I try to start a single extruder print via OctoPrint, I have to select an extruder on the printer manually (even though I selected one through the "change extruder" menu entry beforehand). Is it possible to preselect a specific extruder, e.g. via a special gcode or serial command? I want to be able to remotely start a print just like before the MM upgrade, without touching the printer... I know I'm lazy 😀

Also, how can I print several complete individual objects with different extruders each in one run?

Cheers,
Simon

Re: Single extruder printing

If you change T? to T0 in your startup GCODE, it'll select extruder 1 for you. (T1 for extruder 2, T2 for extruder 3, T3 for extruder 4). as far as other objects in other colors, you would need to first add the single part STL for each object, then assign the appropriate extruder to each object, however it's very inefficient on material as you'd still need a waste tower that would be pretty big for 4 different colors using up filament and taking time to print.

Awesome, thanks!

Maybe I should clarify for the second part: I was referring to the "complete individual object" (might be called something similar) under the output options in the Slic3r print menu. Using that option, it is possible to print the first "complete" object from zero to the final z height for example in the lower right corner and then move the printhead to the upper left corner, and start another complete object from 0 to final z height.
If I was to print two copies of some part, say one in black and the other in red, I'd expect to be able to print them with a single change of filament (and therefore no need for an actual waste tower).
