Simplify3D Multimaterial PROFILE anyone?

Even if it's just for SINGLE FILAMENT mode?

Ideally 4 MM profile, but ANYTHING is welcome! 😉

ThankS!

I haven't used S3d much since I got the MMU, I use Kiss and Slic3r.

OK, for single filament printing, it should simply be a matter of replicating the start and end G-code from a Slic3r slice.

For multiple filament printing... Well, I have written a post-processor for KISS. I have also looked at S3D G-code after having been asked to create a post-processor for S3D. What I saw was horrendous/nonsensical G-Code; I simply wasn't prepared to invest the huge amount of time required to untangle it - if it would have been possible. The only solution would be to find a programmer who has that time. Or move to a decent slicer (Slic3r or KISS).

Rather than writing a post-processor, which seems like it would be fragile/difficult is the Goode required for MMU to work be configured into S3D’s code generation (e.g. Level change, etc.).

I thought about that almost a year ago. Then I realised it's not that simple, hence the post-processor.

A post processor either needs to be incorporated in the slicer, i.e. Slic3r PE, or a separate post processor needs to be written for the slicer like Peter has done for KISS. The waste tower has to be large enough to handle the max number of filament changes on any given layer in the print, plus on those layers where there is no filament change the waste tower only needs minimal infill and doing this based just on layer change would be impossible.

It's actually a lot more difficult than this. Location of tower, layer height and purging volumes all add to the complexity. Plus the layer before a layer change, the sparse infill needs to be semi-sparse. Then there's getting the speeds correct for each material type. And a few other things.

Absolutely. I was just giving the shortened, easy to understand version. 😀
