MMU the steel tubes is necessary?

Are the metal tubes inside the quick connectors really necessary?

I ask this question because I just installed the MMU in the prusa, but I feel that these metal tubes are too narrow for the filament, so you could work without them or they really are very important.

Thank you.

As far as i can tell they are not necessary. I've had tons of prints with higher quality without them.

Someone beat me to my own topic lol.

If the steel tube is too narrow, the filament may not be able to enter the ptfe. My advice : get a better filament, because if that one don't have a (almost) regular 1.75mm diameter you will encounter many problems with it. The mmu isn't forgiving with bad filament.
