First layer woes after MM upgrade

Hello all.
I've installed the MM upgrade to my Mk2S printer, but I'm having some issues with my first print.
I have white PLA in extruder 1.
I've gone through the self tests and Z cal. I also printed a first layer calibration, and it looked fine, as far as I can tell (not very easy for me to determine what's a good result or bad one).
Before the upgrade, I had my Live Z at -.200 for PLA. After the upgrade, I still can't get first layer to stick at -.475!
I figured maybe I installed the PINDA probe a bit higher than I did before, but almost half a mil seems like a lot of correction.
Also, the extruder is groaning and depositing a huge blob of filament when it starts it's print. Any ideas?

Sounds like you do not have your Live Z set well at all. Try this calibration file:

Make sure it makes a complete surface that peals up as one solid flat layer.

Don't worry about the live z being that far off.

Basically, you are looking to make sure that the filament "squishes" slightly when it hits the surface during the V2 calibration.

I've heard somewhere that as a rule of thumb, you don't need to adjust your PINDA unless you are getting close to -.1000.

If it makes you feel better, mine is around -.800 and it works great.

Re: First layer woes after MM upgrade

My first post, I assembled a MK2s and MM upgrade together this week, and have been tweaking live z and bed level values to get a good first layer. I need some help. See attached print. For first layer experts what do you recommend I tweak?

Possibly stupid question, when making changes to bed level values for left side, right side, front side, rear side, where exactly on the bed do these relate to?

Currently live Z is at -.350mm, left and right sides at -20um, and front and rear sides as -10um. PLA is generic white.

Thanks!

Mark

Re: First layer woes after MM upgrade

Live Z is arbitrary to where your PINDA is, so long as it's not too high, you should be fine.

Your print looks to me like your live Z is too close to the print bed. I've experienced similar "indented corners" of infill when mine was too close to the print bed. It can also cause the weird striping between the infill as it "squishes" the filament out the side a little more than it should.

That should probably fix most of your problems. It may take a little tweaking of the live Z to get it just right, but it's worth it if you do.

Another sign of the z being too close to the print bed is if you hear the extruders "clicking" as they have trouble forcing filament through the nozzle on the first layer. It looks like yours is still printing at least, but it will act like a clogged nozzle if it is too much closer than what you have.
