ABS as soluble material
Hi,
i want to share something i read today.
Some are trying to print ABS and PET, ABS being the soluble material using acetone.
ABS and PET have similar printing temperature.
As Acetone is easy to find for me (and cheaper ?), i will investigate the 💡
Any one have try it ?
Happy print
Re: ABS as soluble material
That is actually a good idea!
Especially with the new slic3r feature that only prints the interface layers with the soluble material.
The only problem cold be how well abs sticks to PETG and vice versa.
Re: ABS as soluble material
Hi,
I gave a try today on a test model with "soluble interface" in ABS
Easy fil ABS from Formfutura + HDGlass (PETG from FF)
Print well.
I put the print in an acetone bath, shaked it and left it for a while (2 hours ?). First, i saw that the ABS interface layers had dissolved and some PETG support materials were floating 😛 , i thought it worked well
But, even if HDGlass (PETG) has not dissolved itself, interlayer adhesion has gone away from several small pieces of the print, and looks like a sponge 🙁
I don't know if a different PETG could handle acetone better...I put a piece of ASA (Apollo X) in acetone, and it did not like it as well...
