MMU Hotend Revert to Direct Drive

If I wanted to revert to direct drive from the MMU, do I need to put the old hotend back in, or can I keep using the MMU hotend?

When I reverted back to my MK2s from MMU I used all of the old parts including the hotend. It's printing awesome once again!

I did the same, I also put back the "old" hot end, though I don't know if this is really necessary. I had so many problems with the MMU upgrade, I just wanted to have back a fully functional printer.

assuming it's clear... the new hot end will work fine, as long as you sort the PTFE tube which is longer

I'm considering to undo the upgrade as well, although I definitely want to upgrade to MMU v2. I might have done it already if we only had an ETA on the v2, definitely not going to live with the situation for > 6 months. The issues with more "exotic" materials (basically anything except PLA and PETG) and anything that needs lots of retracts are just such a massive PITA.

I reverted back and used the MMU hotend. It seemed to work fine but I was still seeing some stringing with the Prusa PLA. I can't remember if it did that before or not so I bought a new nozzle, heatbreak (MK2 style), thermistor and teflon tube to see if that changed anything. That basically took it back to what a stock MK2S hotend would be. I didn't see any difference though so I suspect the MMU hotend would have been fine to keep using as is.

From what I could remember in the E3D v6 between the old MK2s and the MMU, all that changed was the heatbreak, thermistor and teflon tube. The heatbreak was a slightly different inner diameter on the MMU but is what the MK3 uses now so I assume that should be ok.

I reverted back, used the same hotend and replaced the PTFE tube with a 50mm one vice the 40mm one for the MM - works great. Waiting on MM2!

Joined the club yesterday and undid the MMU upgrade. What a massive waste of time and money.
I got a few really nice multicolor PLA prints, but 1) to me a printer is a tool and 2) I thought I was buying multimaterial, not multicolor-PLA.

EDIT: The fact that they're still selling this (just checked) is a goddamn disgrace.

OK, I would definitely advise against using the MMU hotend. I've tried it for a week (because the original went into another printer) and had nothing but trouble.
The problem is the following: With the new design, you need to somehow counter the PFTE so it sits flush against the heatbreak. The MK2S hotend assembly allows upwards motion of the PTFE, which leads to blob formation between PTFE and heatbreak after a while. It's a real nuisance because you can't get there without disassembling the whole hotend. I installed a standard heatbreak after the second time it happened, now it seems to work fine.
