Poor and inconsistent cylinder surface finish
Hi,
Yesterday i printed 4 cylinders in PETG, and the surface finish is quite poor.
You can see marks on all 4 that look like scars, and also the seams look back and protude from the surface.
Also, something changed during the print, you can see the surface changing texture near the top. These printed for 16 hours overnight, so i don't know what changed but this looks to be around the last 4-5 hours of the print where the surface is better and shinier and the seams are a little bit better.
Before, i have seen ugly surfaces like this on cylinders when using Octoprint, but this was just an SD card print and no raspberry pi connected to the printer. I am using a system with spools on rollers with a bowden tube to the printer, i suspect this system of causing some underextrusion.
Print settings are;
nozzle 0,4mm
0,3mm layer height
3 perimeters, 30% grid infill
250 c nozzle with PETG
How thick are the cylinder walls?
Cheerio,
RE: Poor and inconsistent cylinder surface finish
The outer diameter is 45mm and inner diameter is 8mm, so lots of infill. And, 3 perimeters.
Curious. I've never seen that effect on thick-walled cylinders.
Your filament is damp, drying it will help a little. Settin the seam to 'Aligned' or 'Rear' will also tidy up some of the random patches.
For any more help it would be best to save your project as a .3mf file
Files > Save Project as
Zip the .3mf and post it here. It will contain both your part and your settings for us to diagnose.
Cheerio,
