How do I fix this?
I printed this tealight holder I designed myself. As you can see, there are a few layers that didn't print very well, although the layers in between printed fine. I have 2 questions: How would you recommend fixing the holder, and which setting in my slicer should I alter to get a better print next time.
Here are the facts: I made it out of Shaxon white PLA (purchased from Frys), printed it on my enclosed Prusa i3 Mk2s, sliced it using Simplify3D. I printed it at 50mm/s, .4width, .2 height, 15% infill, 210/55 hotend/bed temps, 60%fan speed.
As far as fixing the holder, should I take a heat gun to it and try to carefully melt the gaps together? Or maybe spackle and then paint over it? I'm pretty sure acetone fixing only works with ABS (which is what I usually work with). I'd like to give it as a gift, but I can't give it as it looks now. As of now it's still on the bed, so I could cut it horizontally at a layer and reprint it from the point of the cut, although that could be a lot of work, and not produce the results I want.
For the slicer, I thought it was strange how it only had problems with the layers where it was printing solid surfaces. Looking at the speeds stats, it was consistent throughout the whole print.
Thank you for taking a look at my issue, your feedback is appreciated.
Re: How do I fix this?
Looks as though you had a (partial) blockage during the print.
What retraction settings are you using? Do you have Linear Advance turned on and if so, is it calibrated?
Do you have similar problems when printing a pre-sliced model (Castle) with this filament?
Is the filament drive pulley clean?
Is the filament tight on the spool? (any twists etc) and does the spool run freely on the holder?

Re: How do I fix this?
My retraction settings: Distance .80mm, no extra restart, no retraction vertical lift, retraction speed is 30mm/s. I have a coast of 1.0mm and wipe nozzle of 1.0mm (there is retraction during wipe). I don't have a setting for "Linear Advance" in S3D, is that synonymous with extra restart?
Never printed a pre-sliced model with this filament, but I've been able to print several other models using the same settings, none of them had the same issue. The only difference between those models and this one is that this one has these flat, solid layer surfaces.
Any thoughts about cleaning up the print?

Any thoughts about cleaning up the print?
Use Slic3r PE with a supplied profile (the correct one for your printer of course). But before you do that, deal with the other possible points of failure I mentioned.
Linear Advance is a firmware thing which optimises nozzle pressure. It's not a slicer setting, but is initiated by the slicer.

Re: How do I fix this?
Wanting to make a few small changes to the design, I decided to print it again. This time, I turned off coast and wipe (I was thinking the retraction during wipe could have been the culprit). For good measure, I also lowered the fan speed to 60%. I kept the retraction amount at .8mm and the speed at 50mm/s.
As you can see, the print came out much better, but the same issue occurs in the same layers on the bottom and top layers of the 3rd tier.
I'm still looking to get advice about how to fix and clean up the plastic model. I'd like to give it as a gift...is there a PLA-melting method I can use?
