Not sure if it was mentioned more than once in the manual I just followed the same orientation from when it was suggested to do so. So all the bearings were treated the same.

I'm assuming it matters because it was highlighted with an ! in the manual in step 12 of the Y carriage. So if it's important for those bearings safe to assume it's important for all of them.

I just ordered 11 of the Musimi bearings earlier this week with a new account and I didn't get offered 30% off?! That stinks but oh well. The bearings are out for delivery now.

What spec for the bearing and rods did you guys decide to go with? I just ordered my i3 and figured I might as well do the bearing and rod upgrade when I build it and I have the 30% off coupon too.

I was able to grab a bunch of igus drylin RJZM-01-08 ( http://www.igus.eu/wpck/2292/drylin_r_rjum_01 ) at decent pricing, they are like the standard drylin but with a aluminum enclosure. I just replaced the stock bearings and the difference is like night and day! Incredibly silent and rock solid. I can totally vouch for them.

I was able to grab a bunch of igus drylin RJZM-01-08 ( http://www.igus.eu/wpck/2292/drylin_r_rjum_01 ) at decent pricing, they are like the standard drylin but with a aluminum enclosure. I just replaced the stock bearings and the difference is like night and day! Incredibly silent and rock solid. I can totally vouch for them.

Did it fit in the MK2 bearing housing? the diameter is 16mm instead of the standard 15mm, so I wasn't sure if it would fit.

Also forgive me if this is a silly question, but the Drylin bearings is almost 2x the cost ($10 vs $5) of the Misumi ones, is there anything special that makes the Drylin better?

EDIT: I checked out the Igus website and found information about the Drylin product here:

I think I am going to get it instead of the Misumi bearings now. I love the fact that it glides instead of rolling. No moving parts! And its supposed to be quieter and 100% free of lubrication. Im getting a quote now from Igus and Ill let you guys know how it goes when I get mine.

Several people reported good results with RJ4JP-01-08. These are a fraction of the price of the encased ones. I ordered 25 anyway to test. 😉

it worked perfectly on my MK2, no issues whatsoever, of course you need to redo the XYZ calibration.

I don't have the invoice at hand but paid about €4/each, so it was not too bad. The difference like you said is that there are no balls and the bearing just slides.

Note that the ones I've got are with the aluminum enclosure, that I believe are better suited for the MK2 (that holds the bearings just with a zip tie).

I've got the RJ4JP-01-08 installed on my Y-axis. Definitely quieter. I purchased enough to do the X and Z axis as well, but have not swapped those yet, as the only problem I had was noise from the Y-axis.

[I still get some odd moaning from the longer, faster Y-carriage movements - clearly not related to the bearings - something else is vibrating.]

Oh? How's the tolerance?

I just got the recommended igus bearings a couple days ago and as expected, they are oversized. The igus bearings are oversized consistently by about 0.04mm, and this is a difference that I can see when holding the bearing on the rod in my hand. The igus bearings have very obvious play, while the SKF ones have zero play.

Tolerance is a lot better as with the Igus one. But the linear rods must be perfectly aligned parallel, otherwise the bronce bearings won't work. I have my bearings from a local dealer http://www.caspar-gleitlager.de/de/produkte/gleitlager/sintergleitlager/sinterbronze_buchsen.php

I just upgraded my bearings to the IGUS RJ4JP-01-08, I bought them on Ebay for $21 for 6. Shipping from IGUS was super expensive since I live in Hawaii, but the vendor from Ebay gave me free shipping.

Here are my first impressions:

1. They are a perfect match for the original Prusa bearings. I installed them and they fit like a glove in the X and Z carriages.

2. They do not slide as smoothly as I assumed they would. It takes a significant amount of force for me to slide them up and down the rods. I would say its about the same as the original bearings, but they definitely do not feel like they slide easier then the originals.

3. They are quiet! Almost no noise can be heard when the carriages slide back and forth. This is especially nice on the X and Z-carriages since they move so much.

4. They are much lighter than the originals, I didn't weigh them, but I would guess they are about half as heavy.

Finally, IGUS also sent me a sample of the nicer RJZM-01-08, which has the aluminum enclosure that some of the other readers were talking about.

The RJZM-01-08 WILL NOT FIT IN THE X OR Z CARRIAGES! It is 16mm instead of 15mm in diameter.

I tried to install it and it will not fit. They are also 1mm longer then the original bearings, but the extra length shouldn't be an issue.

It is very unfortunate that it will not fit the carriages because they slide super SMOOTH! It literally moved up and down the rods like silk. Although they will not fit in the X or Z carriages, I believe it will be fine for the Y bed frame. I am going to order 3 of the RJZM-01-08 for the Y heated bed frame, because it slides so smooth I just have to get them!

I have done a couple of prints with the RJ4JP-01-08 and so far I am loving them. Not only are they super quiet, it just feels good knowing that I do not have to worry about lubrication or one of the little balls falling out.

Thanks for taking the time to post. I purchased 10 of the RJ4JP-01-08 bushings/bearings, and have installed 3 onto my Y-carriage. I cleaned my rods with alcohol, and then used a little dry PTFE on the rods. After moving the new bearings/bushings up and down about 20 times, the movement seemed to smooth out and get a bit easier.

And they are definitely quieter. Not all users will have noise issues, but some will. This can be a good solution.

Although they will not fit in the X or Z carriages, I believe it will be fine for the Y bed frame.

I have to correct you on this. My prusa runs on RJZM-01-08 on both X and Y carriages without a glitch and without modifications.

How are these running for you and do have more feedback on the degree of difference in noise output these give off versus the RJ4JP-01-08? I purchased a kit and want to proactively purchase replacement bushings and I'm will to purchase these if there is a big difference between the two options.

Also I understand that there are hardened rods that are better overall alongside purchasing the newer bushings... can anyone recommend or point me in the right direction where I can find these replacement rods and how much more or less they would cost?
