Does the original MK2 have a filament runout sensor?
Just like title says, does the original MK2 have a filament runout sensor and will it pause the print to reload if it detects an out-of-filament condition? Using firmware 3.2.3.
Thanks!
RE: Does the original MK2 have a filament runout sensor?
Hi Brian,
NO the Mk2 does not have a filament sensor
the updated Mk2.5 had a laser filament sensor which was problematic, and the Mk2.5S has an infrared filament sensor. unfortunately Prusa have discontinued the upgrade kit,
I believe the individual parts are still available on their website

alternatively parts are available on Ebay and Ali Express

the assembly guide link is below

Please note I believe there are custom cable adapters to convert the filament sensor and part cooling fans to work with the Mk2.5S
the Mk2.5S / Mk3S Pinda, seems a bit difficult to locate, it has 4 wires as opposed to the mk2 and Mk3S+ pinda / spinda, which have 3 wires.
the linear bearing U Bolts are available, but not essential.

Just to add to this, I did the upgrade from MK2S to 2.5S using one of the "aftermarket aliexpress" kits. It went quite well, however if you go with such a kit make sure you have spare screws and nuts before you start, you can recover some from the old parts but at least in the kit I had some were missing.
Printer works as new now, at some point I’ll probably replace the "cloned ?" PINDA v2 with an original SuperPINDA. Which is why I did this upgrade in the first place, my PINDA v1 had died…
I should have bought the official upgrade package back when it was available, but eh.
