50W heater cartridge ?

Hello everyone,
Due to a recent number of failures I've decided to switch the entire hotend on my MK2S, and in a stroke of luck, found a reseller near me selling E3D V6 hotend on sale, unfortunately, I bought two, but have unfortunately noticed that one of the hotend has a heater cartridge that is rated for 12V 50W, before going back to the store, I'm wondering if that would be alright to use with the MK2S, as it normally needs 12V and 40W of power.

Thanks for your help
Bab

Hi Bab,

a 12 volt 50 watt heater will heat your heatblock faster. so you will need to do A PID Tune, to smooth the temperatures out, otherwise the temperature will tend to oscilate above the desired temperature.

50 watt heaters are bigger than the standard Prusa value, but their use is common in other printers

A number of Prusa users, do use 50 watt heaters.    the heater will use just over 4 amps, which is within the  fuse rating,  and the power supply rating.
the mosfet on the Mini Rambo board should handle the power happily, Make sure that you properly tighten the screws in the poser connector and that you fully seat the heater power plug in the board connector. make sure there is no side loading f=from the wires, when you close the rambo case door, and make sure the nylon support filament is still inserted fully at both ends.

regards Joan

Hello Joan,

Not only did you answer on the issue I have, you also took the time to explain why and how it works like that!

Thanks a lot
