LCD not working, i3 MK2S kit just assembled

I just assembled my MK2S kit, turned it on, and the LCD displays a screen with four lines:

28/0 Z 0
28/0 100%
SD---% 0--:--
Prusa i3 MK2 ready.

If I _press_ the dial, I see a different screen

Info Screen
Preheat
No SD card
Load filament

Pressing the dial causes the display to switch back and forth between the two screens above. _Turning_ the dial causes the displays to change the displayed characters, resulting in gibberish.

I don't see any screens about firmware version, self-checks, or anything like that.

Any suggestions?

Have you got this working?
I just assembled mine and I have the exact same issue.

Kenneth, I just had some help from someone on the shop's livechat.
After trying out a few options we concluded for me it was probably a loose wire. Hopefully it is/was the same for you.

For anyone else in the future the advice I was given is consolidated below

  • If you've unplugged everything and plugged it back in again and it's still not working, unplug everything other than the PSU and the LCD.

  • If the error persists it is most likely a faulty LCD/cable.

  • If not, plug in each one of the other cables one at a time and check after each cable. FYI power off before plugging in more cables to be safe and then start back up.
  • You should be able to find out which cable is causing the error this way, or if you're lucky like me then the error will disappear

    Good luck.
