Upgrading to Volcano hotend

Greetings everyone.

Since I've been having problems with my V6 hotend while printing with flexibles, I decided to upgrade to a Volcano hotend on the cheap.

The problem is, merely switching hotends resulted in a hideous grinding of the nozzle onto the bed that I found was due to the increased heater block size (I thought the PIMDA probe would take car of that).

How I understand, a modified FW update should be applied to take the increased heater block size into account and I wish if someone could help me with that.

Does anyone have a pre-compiled firmware file that includes necessary changes?

If not, would you kindly point me to a dumb-proof guide on how to do it?

Additionally, would anyone recommend an improved hotend body I could print instead of the stock I got with my printer (with improved air circulation and such)?

Any and all help is welcome.

Thanks in advance.

Just to clarify, I have the Volcano heater block and not the Super Volcano (different in size).

RE: Upgrading to Volcano hotend

Given the number of alternatives that are drop-in replacements, I wouldn't bother with the Volcano any more. 2 years ago, it made sense if you wanted greater hotend throughput. Given the availability of the Dragon and other direct V6 replacements now, and the issues you introduce with a longer, wobbly hotend, it's a lot of work for little gain. Simply replacing my nozzles with 3D Solex nozzles allows my V6 to process more filament than the stock Mk3 extruder can push. I work with a Volcano on my Artillery Sidewinder and it's more of an annoyance than benefit.

There are several firmware patches out there that will make the necessary modifications to Z height. You'll want to read up on compiling the Mk3 firmware if you decide to stick with it.
