Printer did not stop when it ran out of filament

Hi there

One of my prints recently failed when it ran out of filament but the printer did not stop to give me the opportunity to reload.

It’s the first time I tried this feauture since, never verified its function before/not sure I’m using this feature correctly, would you be so kind as to help me out?

Thank you for your time, Christopher.

Some facts:

It’s the first time I tried this feauture since I owned this printer, never verified its function before.

The filament got stuck right after the extrurer motor gear, the printer was still trying to print.

In the support menu it appears that the sensor successfully detected the filament presence/absense. (I tried with the same filament material White PLA)

In the settings/filament sensor the action was turned to continue, all other options where ON.

If the filament jams/breaks beyond the sensor there's nor much you can do.

If it runs out but does not trigger the sensor then, if the sensor is still operable the most likely cause is fragments of fine stringing, dust, or even cobweb tricking the sensor - clean out the sensor, maybe just a blast of compressed air, possibly dismantle, clean and reassemble and all should be well.

Thank you for your suggestion, it seems that the sensor is working fine when I test it in the support menu, that’s why I didn’t feel the need to look into the hardware, could it be the ‘action: continue’ in the filament sensor settings?

It's a long time since I used a Mk2.n and I no longer have access so I can't help you with settings but blowing through the sensor won't hurt and may help.

If the printer failed to stop the printer, either the sensor is turned off or it is not working properly.

I was thinking that maybe, I flashed the wrong firmware to the printer, the FW I used is for the mk2.5s, I tried to find some comparison photo for the mk2.5 and in the manual I can see that the extruder fan in the 2.5 is vertical to the extruder, in my extruder the nozzle fan is diatonically so I thing I made the right choice in the FW update.

Update, it turns out that the diagonal fan is not a differentiating feature between 2.5 and 2.5s, bit I think the Filament Sensor PCB is red in the 2.5 and mine is black

The version in the filament sensor reads rev0-1b
