"MemoryError" Print Failure
Hi! I have an annoyingly intermittent MemoryError issue. in which a beautiful MK3 print suddenly fails. It's either an obvious newbie error that I haven't been able to ID via Google or I need troubleshooting help:
What helps:
1. Changing the size of the print
2. Printing a different file
What doesn't help:
1. changing the cable connecting my computer to the printer
2. printing from the memory card.
Here's the Pronterface call stack from the most recent failure:
[ERROR] Print thread died due to the following error:
Traceback (most recent call last):
File "printrun\printcore.pyc", line 471, in _print
File "printrun\printcore.pyc", line 545, in _sendnext
File "printrun\printcore.pyc", line 567, in _send
MemoryError
The LCD display will say "Heating" and the nozzle and bed will retain set temperature. Other forum members have reported the random "heating" message but they do not say that the print then failed.
What is going on and how do I fix it?
Cheers, SC

As far as I understand you're printing with Pronterface. Any special reason why you're not using the SD card (inserted into the printer)? This would solve your problem.

Re: "MemoryError" Print Failure
I did try the SD card (the memory card). I saw the same issue.
I've even seen the issue using a gcode file which has previously printed well.

Try to disconnect your PC and print only from SD card. I think not many people are using Pronterface for printing, only for debugging purpose.

Re: "MemoryError" Print Failure
You're delightful! Thank you so much for troubleshooting with me.
Yes, I tried using the SD card directly. (Admittedly only once.) I loaded the gcode onto the SD card, disconnected my computer from the printer and printed directly from the SD card. Same memory error.
Of course when you mentioned that suggestion, I suddenly realized that the printer itself is the one of the thing that is held in common. So...my latest hack is to update the printer firmware and drivers. (I know, I know.) I finally used the Sept 2018 update.
Will keep you posted. Thanks!

Re: "MemoryError" Print Failure
Thanks, but I'm still trying to understand where you're getting this error message. 🙂
If you disconnect your PC from the printer and print from SD card (on the printer), any error message on the PC is irrelevant as the printer prints stand alone.
Unfortunately I will most likely not help you with the root cause of this error message. But I would like to see you printing reliable again, doesn't matter how.

Re: "MemoryError" Print Failure
The software updates worked. I've been happily printing for a couple days now. Thank you so much for your help! Cheers, SC
