High Temp Alarm?

While doing a print, 30 min later filament apparently poured out and create a mess.  Filament buildup around the heating element and nozzle.

Per instructions, removed the fans and extruder cover to access the nozzle.  set the nozzle temp to 200 degrees.  Was able to remove the filament access.

Now I get the constant high temp alarm.  Shut down printer for a few minutes.  Power back on and still getting high temp alarm.  See pic

what does this indicate?

RE: High Temp Alarm?

Did you use a wire brush?

If so you may have damaged the thermistor.

Otherwise the thermistor wires may be short circuit.

Unplug the thermistor. And see if you now get mintemp.

If so. The thermistor is probably faulty.

noooooooooooo did not use wire brush.

Once i removed the nozzle, i used a hair dryer to remove the filament from a totally clogged nozzle, then a wire brush to finish the cleaning.  put the nozzle in acetone for a bit.

ok put everything back together and no temp alarm.

Printed for 5 mins then got the Err: maxtemp

Not surer where to go from here 😱

RE: High Temp Alarm?

Check the resistance of the thermistor, it should be 100 kohms at 25C

Thankx

Disconnect the plug and test off the licking tabs for the pins

Resistance is open circuit.  using High dryer does not change resistance.

why would thermistor fail?  High heat from filament buildup... very wierd

oops disregard last post.  Thought i had the correct range selection on my ohm-meter.  Getting a reading +100Kohm.  so, looks like my thoughts of probable cause of bad thermistor seems to check ok.

Well, cleaned up the filament, heated nozzle temp to 200 degrees so i can install nozzle again.  Never reaches 200 degrees and get MaxTemp err at 739 degrees.

Wondering if the extruder thermistor is still the culprit even when i measured at 100+Kohms?

Looks like the thermistor is now shorted.

Was going to purchase the thermistor from printedsolids.  After talking to Dustin tech, im better off just replacing the preassembled hotend.  Makes sense since the printer is at least 5 yrs old.  Still a fantastic printer.

Corrected issue.

Purchased pre-ssembled hot-end from Printedsolid.com.

installed and no issues now 😀 👍
