gcode : disabling heatbed when only n layers remaining OR z> specified height?
Hi there boys & girls.
I would like my heat bed to turn off 5 or 10 minutes before my print finishes, assuming that the model is reasonably tall.
I have learned the best place to put this would be in the layer-change gcode. My question is - is there a variable I can use in gcode that tells me how close we are to finishing the print? Such as 'n layers remaining'.
I also thought turning off the heat bed when the model is a certain height would be useful - say 5mm from being completed.
I am aware of this link here but I'm not sure what I could use http://mauk.cc/mediawiki/index.php/Slic3r_placeholders

Why risk your print detaching when so close to being finished?
RE: gcode : disabling heatbed when only n layers remaining OR z> specified height?
its not a risk because the heat bed takes about 5 minutes to get down to a temperature where its worth worrying about. and even then it only matters if its printing for a long time at the lower temperature.
i do quite a bit of rapid prototyping and the bed cooling down & waiting on it is a factor for me. i have learned that unless the print bed is cold if you lift off your PLA print you will definitely warp it.
it just takes ages to get down to 27 degrees, which i consider safe for my purposes.

The max_print_height and layer_z placeholders should do what you want. Look at the Prusa end gcode for an example.
