Stuck on "searching bed calibration point 1 of 4"

Just upgraded my beloved MK2 with a kit from Prusa, however when doing the first calib it gets stuck in an endless loop on:
"Searching bed calibration point 1 of 4".

The printer makes small movements but does not proceed.

How long have you been waiting?

I had a similar issue after upgrading my Mk3S -> Mk3S+ earlier today, but I let the calibration run.  It finally completed #1 after ~6 minutes, then moved onto point #2.  Each point took about 6 minutes to complete, but in the end it finished and the calibration succeeded.  After readjusting my z-level, my Mk3S(+!) is back in action.

I noticed that with the Super Pinda, the bed calibration seems to take longer due to slower z-axis movements during calibration/pre-print. Not sure if this is normal or not, but the self-tests are OK and it prints at the same speed it always has, so I'm not concerned.

I have the same issue - just finished my upgrad to the 2.5s kit ( from a 2) . I runs through the XYZ 4 point calibration, then says failed. Did you ever solve it ?

- Self tests passes.

- I check the PINDA probe with a screw driver (detects)

I have also tried with both - pinda and superPinda settings, It does the same. ( I'm prettysure I have a super PINDA - 3 wires - kit was ordered in the last batch ever - dec 2020)

Did you have any detail about the fail message?

@antonio-da-catania

It says "XYZ calibration failed. Please consult the manual" - I now realize this is different then the original problem from this thread.

I followed : https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/xyz-calibration-mk3-mk3s-mk3s_112351/#troubleshooting-the-xyz-calibration ( linked to from  https://help.prusa3d.com/en/article/calibration-failed_2033/ )

Did a full reset, it failed again, twice. I then powered down, placed the PINDA in the right spot, powered up, and checked the sensor - I got odd readings ( it would flip at the midpoint on the X-Axis) , but when placing metal under it, it would flip to 1 (detecting).

The right hand was lower than the left ( by approximately 2 mm ).

I changed nothing after this, and retried the calibration - and it worked.

I hope future revisions would give more information on failures ( like stats on the screen ? I know there is not much there.)

Anyway. Thank you for replying. I am not sure what I have will help others, but its another place to find the links.

I have the same problem, I have updated my MK3S with the MK3S + kit (for the moment I have only updated the superpinda to do some tests) and now I am in loop, every time I turn on the printer, it asks me to do a calibration, if I start xyz calibration, after more or less 24 minutes, I get the error message "XYZ calibration failed. Please consult the manual".

If I test the SuperPinda with a screw driver, I can see the led change the state (from ON to OFF) in a correct way.

I have also reset without success.

@antonio-da-catania, can you explain better your 'solution' please?

@gigios

Hi, unfortunately I only have mk2.5s.

Not sure how to, but have you updated the firmware to the latest version?

@antonio-da-catania

Ciao, thanks for the answer. Yes, I'm using the firmware 3.9.3.

I know this is an older post, but I had the same problem and it turned out to be the hotend was not properly seated - I could tell since it could rotate and sometimes came out. I disassembled the E-axis (kept the cabling intact, but took it apart enough to go back to step 12. Then when I closed up everything, the hot end could not move and it passed the initial self-test, calibrating now…

It can also happen if your pinda is too low.

RE:

If your printer is stuck on the "searching bed calibration point," it is likely that your Z-axis end-stop is not triggered. Check that your Z-axis end stop is triggered and adjust accordingly.

Z axis has no end stop. Pinda probe is the "end stop"
