Extruder calibration

So, I have finally got my freelance i3 built. I had trouble calibrating XYZ until I replaced the Pinda probe with one supplied by Prusa. I have a Rambo mini board that came pre loaded with firmware. I bought the V6 hotend from E3D, along with their 'Small but Mighty' stepper motor. The motor is built for steps of 0.9 deg. I asked the place I got the Rambo from to alter e-steps/mm to correct value for 0.9mm steps when they preloaded the firmware. I am getting nowhere with extruder calibration. E steps are set at 837 steps/mm according to m93 in Pronterface. Any one any ideas what setting should be? If I were to swap E3D motor for a std 1.8 deg motor what would be a good starting point for number of e steps? I hope it is ok to ask here as I didn't buy all the parts from Prusa..

Re: Extruder calibration

My standard 1.8 degree stepper calibration for the extruder is 280 steps/mm. So if you are using the same Bondtech geared extruder then your steps should be exactly twice that: 560 steps/mm. Of course you can precisely calibrate your extruder by measuring the actual filament consumed when you give a command (or series of commands) to extrude, say, 50 or 100mm. I've never felt the need to do that on my MK3 because it just worked right from the start.
