Calibration failed - Y axis rattling and moving too fast

Hello,

I've been looking for a solution, but couldn't find any, I hope it's not a know issue.

So, I upgraded a MK2 to MK2.5s. Built it all up without any issues and flashed the right firmware. It started well until the calibration points. The two firsts are found easly, but when the Y axis starts moving, it tries to go beyond its maximum. So the bed stops against the rods holders and the belt start jumping over the gearings. This is were I stop the machine.

I checked the distance that the bed is traveling in comparison to what it says it was (on the LCD when manually moving Y axis) and the bed is moving too fast. There's a difference of 15mm.

What is strange is that I didn't modify or changed anything of the Y axis for the upgrade.

I hope someone can help.

If your belt is jumping teeth it's not tight enough. Start with the obvious hardware issues before investigating software.

Hi @vintagepc

Thanks for your answer.

Yes it is probably a hardware issue. But the thing is that the belt can only be jumping here. The bed wants to go beyond the end of the rods. Either it does that or something breaks or the motor fails.

My Question is what would make that bed go to far? Motor turning too much, perhaps, Software issue is a possible as well. But if the belt wasn't tight enough it wouldn't affect the distance that the bed is traveling. Plus I didn't touch it, and it was working fine before the upgrade.

I just reviewed what's in the upgrade; I thought wrongly that it gave you sensorless homing (where loose belts cause this issue) but it does not. So I'd suggest checking both that your endstops are functioning correctly and that you have the correct 2.5S firmware and not one that expects TMC2130 drivers.

Some people have reported needing to do a full factory reset after changing printer variants. That would be the next step if you have not already done so; the upgrade might have corrupted your steps-per-mm value which can lead to the same symptoms.

You can dump the contents of memory configuration by issuing M503 from a terminal. Paste the output here for perusal.

hello,

thank you for following my problem!

So yes the bed has two home sensors, one on Y and one on X axis. But it is only on the other side. (when the bed goes to zero, not +210mm) So finding the Zero is not a problem, however it doesn't know its limit in the other direction.

I tried to flash the firmware several times. I check if it was the wrong one, but I don't think so (prusa3d_fw_MK25S_3_8_1_2869).

I tried to do a factory reset and the lauched again the calibration process. But it did the same rattling/jumping than before.

And here is the M503 contents :

Thanks again

Is there anyway to recalibrate the steps per milimeter in the Y and X axis?

And no, your steps/mm is fine as is. Don't go changing that value, it's not the cause.

Did you find an answer? My printer have almost the same problem just on the X-Axis.
