Large PETG prints are bowing
Hello! I printed a rather large part (300mm tall, 290mm wide) using PETG. After cooling, it bowed in the middle, resulting in about 80% of the part being deformed. Towards the middle the part is bowed in about 5mm, but it's fine near the top and bottom. I tried adding a single rib along the width of the part but that did not help at all.
I'm using Atomic Filament and here's my print settings:
- 245c nozzle temp
- 85c bed temp
- Fan off
- 80mm/s perimeter print speed
- 70mm/s external perimeter print speed
- 15% infill
I did not have an enclosure on my printer when printed (have one now though, haven't tried reprinting!) and I let the part cool down before removing it. Any tips on how I can resolve this?
RE:
In my experience, enclosures do more harm than good with PLA and PETG, so I wouldn't hold my breath, unless your problem is caused by some serious drafts.
Warping is a common issue for long objects like this. Usually it's on the outside so the usual remedies such as adding a brim or mouse ears may not do much good in your case. If I run into warping issue, I usually put a layer of Layerneer bed weld or Magigoo on the steel sheet, and this takes care of it almost every time. May not be the most elegant solution but I need to get stuff done.
