Why would bed leveling work with the 6.4.0 firmware but not 6.2.6?

I'm still having problems getting my newly-bought Prusa XL to successfully level the bed before each print instead of telling me "Bed Leveling Failed," especially for prints that take up the whole bed. Previously, Printed Solid's tech support recommended that I replace the heatbed frame and sent me a well-packed replacement frame. However, replacing the frame made no apparent difference. See here for details: https://www.reddit.com/r/prusa3d/comments/1qr6k1v/getting_second_opinion_on_what_to_do_about_bed/

So far, my only real clue is that I could consistently level the bed when the 6.4.0 firmware was installed, but when I downgraded the firmware to 6.2.6 at the insistence of tech support to troubleshoot other problems, bed leveling stopped working. My best guess is that the 6.4.0 firmware tolerates some things that the 6.2.6 firmware does not, which I would hope would narrow the scope for possible hardware problems. Any ideas on what those things might be?
