Repeated Failed Prints! Extruder not pulling through filament.

Dear Prusa Team,

I am having extreme difficulty geting my XL printer to print!

I have a print which I've attempted around 10 times now,

Currently, it begins to print for sometimes 10 minutes, other times a few hours before it inevitably comes to a halt.

After some investigations, I think the reason for this is it gets to a point where the extruder is no longer pulling the filament through.

The print continues, and 100% is shown on the screen, but the print is only partially done. Very annoying when I left it overnight! Sometimes, I have been there at the point where it's stopped, and I have simply paused it for a minute and resumed. I have also 'changed the filament' by removing it and re inserting it with the end snipped off. Both mean the print has continued for a while longer.

I have tried to diagnose this issue by browsing the various forums and can't seem to find an appropriate solution.

Some things that came to mind:

- Nozzle Wear (prints well sometimes)

- Changed filament reel (potentially faulty batch)

- Clean the hotbed (looked like it didn't stick as it stopped printing during first layer)

- Tension/blockage in first sensor (put piece of filament into it and de-attached pipe, removing sensor from equation)

Last thing to do is to replace the gold wheel or the bearing attached to the clasp which pushes the filament against the wheel.

Is this wise/possible/simple?

Thanks,

Frustrated Owner of XL Printer

Does the extruder stop turning or has the filament been stripped? What filament were you using?

My issue from the past was that I was printing PLA Silk, which expands slightly when heated, building pressure in the nozzle until the extruder finally strips the filament. The solution was to reduce the extrusion multiplier to 0.97.

RE: Repeated Failed Prints! Extruder not pulling through filament.

Has there been a resolution to this? I am having the same issues after flashing to 6.2.5+8912. My error happens in two ways, one of which the OP describes.

1. The nozzle stops extruding, but continues all tool paths. I did not check to see if the filament was ground down from the extruder gear, but when I started the next print, everything worked as expected.

2. The toolpath stops, as well as the extruder, and I am left with the nozzle stuck in the unfinished print. All while the printer thinks it is continuing the print and I get a notification that the print is complete through PrusaConnect and the screen shows 100%.

I will try reverting to the previous firmware, but that was causing me to get "Extruder not spinning" errors which was fixed in 6.2.5+8912. Any other help would be nice.

Follow up on reverting firmware, I received "extruder not spinning" error twice, so I will have to go back to the latest firmware.
