Side filament sensor placement
Hey guys, since the last firmware version (perhaps also 1-2 back), the wizard asks for side sensor placement side, so right or left side. Is it possible to place the side sensor on the right side instead of the left? I read that the cable should be too short to achieve that, but was that because of the same connector being used and therefore the cabe was too short and that has changed by firmware now and you can connect the cable to the right side side filament sensor connector now?*
*pure assumption on my side, did not really find any information about that.
Just wanted to ask, as my space is quite narrow and it is a bit of a pain to get the XL out completely for that kind of action.
RE: Side filament sensor placement
My understanding is that the mapping function allows you to either have 3 sensor paths on the left and 2 on the right (the normal shipping configuration), or 2 on the left and 3 on the right. This is just a configuration setting because both side filament sensors have identical hardware with 3 sensor paths (only the UV printed number labels are different). As regards having all 5 sensor paths on one side of the printer, you will need a longer cable. I have done this mod. It's covered (among other things) in this thread.
RE: Side filament sensor placement
And if I have only 2 toolheads and want the two Rolls to be placed on the right side? ^^'
RE: Side filament sensor placement
If the 2-tool XL comes with both left and right sensors, then this could be done in firmware, but as far as I know such a feature is not implemented. If it only comes with the left sensor, then you could move it to the right using a longer cable (while keeping it plugged into the left sensor PCB socket). I don't know what would happen if you just plugged the left sensor it into the PCB socket for the right sensor, but I expect that the firmware would not expect that and get upset.
RE: Side filament sensor placement
Just upgraded to 2 toolheads, so just as info: The PTFE tubes of tool 1 and 2 would not be long enough to place the sensor on the right side, instead of the left side. So therefore, not possible easily.
RE: Side filament sensor placement
I printed a PTFE coupler and extended those tubes as required, cheaper and easier than replacing the whole umbilical run with a longer piece. There are loads on printables.
