No, this is out the box, extruder and LCD attached.

Printed at .32 Speed profile with no thought what so ever.

Looks good. Small cooling issues on the lower part of the bow.

I saw so many unboxing and reviews about the MK4 but as far as i know, there is only one unboxing of the XL on YouTube. Are there less units out of the XL than the MK4?

Most likely the sort of person who orders an Xl is more interested in printing than making frivolous videos.  It's a bit pricey, techy, and not pink and fluffy enough to attract the average 'influencer.'

Cheerio,

Especially if they are not getting it for free. I have hopes however that at some point Thomas or Stefan will get their hands on one. I could imagine however that they are rather interested on getting a proper 5 tool head version as that is the exciting stuff.

Perhaps with all the non-servicable doors gorilla-glued shut for Thomas! 🙂

Mk4 troubleshooting page clearly says DO NOT OPEN THE GEARBOX, but who reads manuals eh? I had a blast watching his video 🤣

I had a flash-forward mental image of myself not being able to resist taking it apart. Now the urge is gone thanks to him 😉
If I were PR I'd just glue a warranty seal around the lid.

RE: Any real XL prints/reviews?

I finally got back home from a few weeks away enjoying the sun and unboxed the XL that had arrived while I was gone. Obviously it's the single-head version. I've only printed a few models so far, none of which were any of the ones included 🙂

I don't have time nor inclination to produce YT videos, so here are just my very first impressions, just a stream of consciousness, in no particular order:

  • In real life, it looks much less intimidating than in pictures. It's big but not crazy big. In fact, I ordered a 30in deep worktable for it but now I think I'm going to move it to a 24in deep table, which segues to the next observation…
  • This thing shakes like crazy. It's scary. But it doesn't seem to affect print quality. I'm not very happy with the worktable I bought, so I think I'll move it to one of my much sturdier 24in workbenches and see if that affects the shaking. It will hang over a bit, but the feet all fit on a 24in deep table.
  • Print quality is not discernible different from my Mk3S printers. Including the hull line on one of the models I printed ☹️ I have not at all tried to push speed because that's not what matters to me.
  • I bought it for the (hopefully soon arriving) multi-head capabilities not for its size, but now seeing it in front of me, I can see that it will help me print some of the stuff I'm selling more efficiently.
  • It is so nice not to worry about Live Z anymore. First layers were great using PLA but had some issues with PETG. But in all fairness, I threw a spool of badly behaved blue Overture PETG at it, that had given me problems on my Mk3S as well.
  • Given the large bed size, it is great that MBL only probes around the print area.
  • Part of the startup procedure is waiting for the bed to spread out the temperature, which for my first print took more than 5 minutes. There's an option to skip it, which I did for the next print and didn't notice any issue.
  • Wifi speed is dismal. Same chip set as on my Minis, so no surprise. Need to buy a long ethernet cable. From the Minis, I know it's about 3x faster than wifi but still unacceptably slow.
  • Assembly was simple but there are a few mistakes in the online manual. I can't imagine having to assemble it from scratch. Life would be way too short. Also, PrusaConnect hookup didn't work as described but as I have used it with Mk3S and Minis, I figured it out. Can't change the PrusaLink username and have to use generated pw, which feels odd.
  • I hate the filament spool holder and location. There's got to be a better way, especially once the multi-printheads arrive.
  • A few issues with the software. Uploaded two models; when printing the second it showed the first one in the preview. Like the Mini, "upload and print" from Prusaslicer is hit or miss. There's some race condition in the firmware that sometimes the print will start but other times the print preview dialog will pop up and require user intervention, which defeats the purpose of remote printing.
  • The prime line gets squirted out outside of the sheet area. I may be able to fix this in startup gcode.
  • It is very quiet.
  • The steel sheet that came with it looked like shit. Had to give it the hot water and soap treatment.
  • Haven't tried swapping nozzles yet but the procedure feels like way too involved and a step back and from my old Dragon hotends, which made nozzle swaps trivial. And in order not to have to hold the heater block with a wrench it seems you need a complete hotend assembly with the new nozzle ready to go, but you can't buy those yet.

That's all for now, after a half day and a night of assembly and printing.

Did you also get the second sheet and the nozzle adapter?

Erm, in case you're swapping one, would it be too much to ask for a foto? I'm not entirely sure how the nozzle/heaterblock assembly goes together tbh. Been wondering since I saw the V6 adapter. Does the nozzle with the long tube screw through the heatblock?

What about the vertical artifacts?

Are they visible on the XL too? Or despite not having the No-VFA Motors is ok? I am curious...

These new printers are marketed with Input Shaper and other such features, yet not included. I hate the fact that these companies use future developments to sell items now (GoPro is another example of a company doing this). If push comes to shove, it should be something that's released shortly after, and not take 6 months or a year!

Yes that sucks and seems to be the new normal. Also with most cars, both electric and combustion.
Here I think it's a direct result of Bambu shaking up the market.

RE:

Hmm I noticed it's quiet except when quickly extruding out (for example) a big line of infill, then it's a pretty loud resonant EerrrRRRRR!  Does yours not do this? If not it makes me wonder if something is up with mine (the sound seems to be coming from the hotend/extruder and not the motion parts on the sides).

As for the prime line, didn't they say they changed the shape of the sheets late in development?  I thought maybe there used to be some metal there, but after the new shape that's gone- but they never updated that piece of the firmware 🙂

RE: Any real XL prints/reviews?

Heard Nero3D mention on a live stream something about being in a contract that he cannot do a review right now. I could see this being the case for the rest of the influencers. They usually have put a system through it's paces and posted a review by now.

With the MK4 being a bit "meh" if you already have a MK3S+ I really believe the XL is going to be a make or break for Prusa so we should see a lot of effort going into it. Maybe at least 2 extruders for the price?
