Nextruder didnt advanced the filament forward

Dear Folks,

 

after changing the 2nd or 3rd time the filament (lime green prusament, so it should be ok with the printer), while loading a new one (all PLA), the loading process didn't work as expected. The filament was in the Nextruder but didn't move forward or backward. I opend the door to the nextruder and could see it turn, but the filament was in front and not moving at all. Had to remove the PTFE tube on top and get the filament out of the nextuder by "force" (with a tong). Is there a way to adjust the tightness/fitting of the nextruder, so it regulary grabs the filament?

Is this with filament with a bit of a blob on the end?  I’ve had ends that were a bit bulbulous that are too fat to fit into the PTFE and parts well.  

I have some issues loading filament. The head sensor detects the filament, but even pushing the filament with some force still doesn’t get it to engage- and that is Will fresh cut tips with.  The Nextruder seems to feed really well once it has engaged the filament, but sometimes I can’t get it to accept fresh filament.  Makes me wonder about how well the MMU3 will work on it..

Successfully feeding in new filament is literally the biggest headache that gives the MMU a bad rep. In my case I changed out the blue fittings for the black passthrough fittings precisely because bad filament tip diameters can sometimes be larger than the hole in the blue fittings. I have no idea why anyone would use the blue ones rather than the black passthrough ones - keep the filament in the smooth pathway devoid of edges and transitions unless actually necessary.

The two springed screws right below the fitting are the clamping force for the idler, so tightening those would be the first thing I'd try. There's also this slightly modded idler door to maybe give you a little more if needed.

But I've yet to come across the same issue. It sounds like your nozzle just wasn't heated for unloading, so the filament was still 'stuck' in the nozzle.

Totally agree on the tube size in the fitting size. That was one of the things I did on my MMU to was go with the larger tubing and black fittings that were passed through. I think there was such a historical “memory“ of Bowden extruder’s that favored tubing just over filament size, but for most everything else I don’t think it really matters to be close to the filament size. And as you and I both seem to have found, having a few extra millimeters of space helps with malformed tips.

once the nextruder gets hold of filament, it seems to do a really good job of pushing the filament and being consistent. But I think those large diameters almost work against it, grabbing the filament, sometimes at the very start.
