RE: Y Axis now bashing repeatedly during homing

I will preface this by saying that I am an idiot. But I had the same problem initially with my mk3.9 kit built printer. It would bash itself against the frame 10-20 times during the y-axis autohoming sequence, then power cycle and give the error message. After a few times I realized that the specific error message was referencing the 'x-axis', but moving the 'y-axis'. I opened up the electrical panel, realized I had the motor cables plugged into the wrong ports and adjusted them. This instantly fixed the issue.

Probably not the same issue anyone here is seeing, but something else to check if you are very desperate.

Updated to 5.0.1 firmware. Three prints in a row, 2 bumps each for the X and Y axis. That has not happened prior, so I am eagerly excited to see if it's a real thing or just some cruel dumb luck.

Update on 5.0.1

Y axis homing has been 2 bumps, however the X axis has been randomly hit or miss. Not terrible, but indeed better. The firmware update has seemingly made a difference. It's getting closer. This makes me optimistic about the 5.1.0 update.

I’ve done at least 30 prints with the 5.1.0 alpha2, and the printer bashed zero times  only the 2 x-axis and 2 y-axis bumps, not more.

For now, I am happy with this issue.

Has anyone had any better experience with the 5.1.0 update? I usually wait until they are out of beta/apha.

Installed it by today. Will keep an eye on it and report.

i also updated to 5.0.1 but had to revert to 5.0.0 because x axis homing failed completely.

with 5.0.0 i can do a full selftest and then auto home no problem.
with 5.0.1 if i do a selftest then it fails on x axis.

RE: Y Axis now bashing repeatedly during homing

I updated today to 5.0.1,

and the first issue was that it lost the WiFi credentials. I had to reload the wi-fi config file several time, because it read the file, displayed the wifi icon, but in reality it was not really connected to the access point. After 4 or 5 time that I was forcing the reload of the wifi config file, it finally connected the access point and went online.

At the first print I noticed during the homing of the X axes it bashed more than the normal  on left and right sides.

In addition, I noticed a different strategy to home Y, where it advanced in small steps till the front end was reached and then returned quickly without interruption to the far Y end.

But I had no problem at all during the print, perfect quality.

5.1.0-beta firmware fixed the issue for me.

RE:

Hi All.  The last post on this topic was 19/11/2023 and nothing since.  Firmware v5.1.0 came out on 23/11/2023 so is it fair to say that the problem has gone  away for most people after 5.1.0?

I ask only because I've been seeing this exact issue on my factory built MK4 which I received about a month ago.  5.1.0 does not appear to have fixed the problem for me.  Happens completely randomly for me where every once and a while the printer head bangs on the x-axis frame anywhere between 5-20 times before it eventually decides it's not a problem and continues on with the print.  Occasionally, it's the y-axis too, but mainly happens with the x-axis.

Thoughts/feedback anyone?

RE: Y Axis now bashing repeatedly during homing

I have upgraded my MK3S+ to MK4 and I have seen the same poroblem from the first power up.

I was ablew to get rid o the problem by thightning the 3 screws that hold the Y-axis motor to the Y-axis holder at the back the of printe.

When thightning the screws I heard the holder PETG part cracking. This was printer at 15% infill. I have the impression that this bracket is not stiff enough when the axis is homing and it deforms, returning bad 0 position data back to the software. I have reprinter this part at 50% infill and it seems to work better, no error since then. Is it a coincidence!!!! I will see and let you know.

5.1 mine all of a sudden is failing Y calibration. the bearings seem fine, bed stops before hitting the bearing on the rear. the front movement is stopped by the bearing. manually moves from -4 to 211 without noise, what gives?

RE: Y Axis now bashing repeatedly during homing

Running my MK4 with firmware 5.1.3 and this has just started happening to me as well. What I'm finding is that each time this happens the symptom is usually one of the axis will not move all the way to the home position. At this point, if I manually move the axis via the control panel to the maximums I find that one or more will reach the end of the axis before the position indicator on the panel indicates the maximum value, for example, the Z axis will be all the way at the top but the control panel will still say 180. If I continue turning the knob till the control panel indicates maximum value and repeat this for each axis, the printer then successfully homes and the problem goes away for a time. Both belt tensions test as good. Its as if the printer is losing the position of one or more of the axis.

RE: Y Axis now bashing repeatedly during homing

Same issue for me, X bashing and Y bashing. It's been happening since the 5.0 firmware release, currently on 6.0.0 RC1 and it has gotten bad enough that I can't print wtihout pressing down on the belts during initial homing. I have checked belt tension several times, it's on the tight side of what the website reccomends.
