Noisy X stepper?

I thought I'd try the alpha firmware and I'm really impressed by the speed and quality. So far I've not had a failed print.

I have noticed however noise on my X-axis has gone up significantly, particularly on large travel movements. I re-packed my bearings thinking that may help and all that did was make it quieter on regular smaller movements, the large travel movements are still noisy. Even reverting back to stable it's still considerably noisier than when I took it out of the box.

Has anyone had any similar experience or does my motor maybe need replacing?

RE: Noisy X stepper?

I have the same problems with noise/vibrations/resonance on the x-axis. Mainly during slower first layer but also on slower parts of other layesr. Had it before the IS-beta too. Been in contact with support (e-mail) and sent videos. I was asked to tighten some screws and to increase first layer speed to see it helped. It didn't help, it changed the sound however, but it's still bad. Higher speed still isn't a solution because you still have to go slow on detailed prints, as well as accelerate/decelerate to reach these speeds. During these times the noise is as bad as usual.
I was asked to wait for a beta firmware which could fix these issues but haven't heard anything from support yet. I assume that IS-beta is not that fix. It states that your printer must be in good shape before use and I don't consider mine to be in a good state with these vibrations.

Do you have a Video or Sound File to hear that noise?

So after loosening belts, re-lubricating the bearings, etc. What sorted it for me was adding sorbothane feet to the printer. I can put my issues at least down to resonance with the surface it's sitting on.
