thanks for your answer, I check for configuration updates, without any update available, and in the prusa FFF I only have these:

in the printer profiles I only have original prusa mk4 input shaper 0.4 nozzle

I find the names a little misleading. 🙄 

My printing categories (and I think the ones of many of you) are:

1) Have TOP QUALITY even if I need to wait. For some print where the look is the most important goal, this is the only option. I expect that installing the IS Firmware I can still get the old Top Prusa quality (or even better) no matter how much I need to wait, without the need to re-flash the printer back and forth.

2) Have FAST QUALITY print. This should be an average, daily reasonable good look. This should be the IS profile when we need normal Quality.

3) Have FAST STRUCTURAL even if not good to look. This should be for printing just structural parts, like a screwdriver holder, or a squared BOX drawer. The important things is its capability to hold or sustain a pieces or weights.

With the current new profiles, is not absolutely clear how this 3 categories corresponds to 2 profiles only on PrusaSlicer.

Reminds me of a sign I saw on a repair shop wall: Quality. Speed. Price. Choose any two.

We have the two, but which ones are they?  I agree there really should be 3 choices.

The 3rd choice is to use the printer profile without IS. 🙂
One "physical printer" with IS and one without.

But why should I not use input shaper for top quality? 

If I have the highest demands on the optics, I simply reduce speed and acceleration. But I don't think that's necessary.

In the structural profile, input shaper makes it look as good as before with the slow and produces durable prints.

When I'm in a hurry and it doesn't matter so much, I use speed.

You have the choice, no one forces you to use one or the other. And if you are happy with your result, that should be enough. 🙂

Do you think it looks better without input shaper?

You can also set the same speed and acceleration with an input shaper profile.

It looks like input shaper will be controlled by the printer firmware in the future. From the start gcode the IS part was removed.

I have not yet done any direct comparisons between no IS and structural IS so far. I mostly have been using structural IS since the last rc firmware release and I think the quality is good and the speed is too. But perhaps it is also dependent on the type of model you are printing if one setting is better than another? I don't have enough prints to compare yet.

Just to add to my last post: the other day I printed a small part in TPU and for that I used the profile without IS and adjusted all the different speeds in the slicer to the same value because TPU does not like sudden changes in printing speeds at all.

Got new MK4 today and updated the software and went straight for input shaping, started fine but then this happened, am trying a benchy now with input shaping and a different usb key. both sliced on 2.6.1

Benchy worked so not sure it was the file or the usb, am trying the large bowl again

Ok just to update, the repeat of the bowl is nearly finished so it must have been the prusa usb key. On the positive side I am very happy with the new printer and input shaping on the MK4 took a sliced model for the mk3 of 26 hours down to 14 🙂

Support suggested that I "Roll back my firmware" after it not stable version yet

 

I think this happens after input shaping firmware update. I performed the complete self test all passed on the first layer on the right side only I am getting ripples it looks like the rest of the first layer is okay this puts a deform on the bottom of the print * See picture. 

The printer passes the self test however I think it has issues with the G-code? The ripples on the right side are bumpy and other layers smoot it out somewhat when they build up. The ripples are deforming the bottom of the print it is smooth however you can see a pattern in the print. 

Thinking this may be a slicer issue I downloaded the new version > Version 2.6.1-rc1+win64 sliced it on 2.0 speed * most of the first layer looks like a smooth first layer but the right side. This happens on every print in the same places. I be doing a roll back this weekend of the firmware and test printing out the same part UP date to follow

I just upgraded the MK4 to the FW 5.0.0 RC and I immediately started to print MMU3 upgrade pieces.
This piece is printed in INPUT SHAPE mode, with Variable Layer height, using 0.2 SPEED PrusaSlicer profile.

For this piece I decided to print it in Prusament PLA. May be I will print the other pieces in Prusament PETG.

The speed change on the MK4 in IS mode is astonishing:

  • It will take (0.20 SPEED) 5h:32m 🤩 
  • it would have taken (0.20 STRUCTURAL) 7h:12m 😐
  • on the MK4 with the old FW 4.7.2 without IS it would have taken 9h:43m 😦
  • And on printing it on the MK3/S+ it would have taken 12h:30m 😱 

I know that the variable layer height is a performance killer, but it is just here that I wanted to try the IS mode and speed.

The print is not yet finished, but you can see here the extreme speed of the print:

POSITIVE:

  • The thing that I have noticed during the print, is the extreme accuracy of the infill grid. It is never corrupted (see later)

NEGATIVE:

  • During first layer sometime it missed the last millimetre of filament before a nozzle travel: when it retracted the filament and went away it detached away also a small piece of filament from the plate.
  • During the print sometime I heard the nozzle "scratching" the grid infill, but this happened very few time till now. On my other Klipper based printer on the contrary, this happen much more often, and it is almost all the time the cause of a failing print, because the grid become damaged and then the layers drops to do spaghetti.I hope it will not happen on the MK4. Till now the grid is perfect.
  • The extreme slowness of the PrusaLink file transfer 😖 12.69MB took 7 minutes....
    However the file was well transferred, with no errors.

Any kind of grid infill seems to have that problem with fast printing, in my experience. My Bambu X1 had the same issue. Most people on their FB page also did.  We just started  using an infill that didn’t cross. I tried it on my MK4 and same issue.

yeah I use rectilinear to avoid the print head hitting the infill when it crosses

I had the same "Z thinks 0 is a couple inches higher than it really is" problem come up 3 or 4 times since I got mine. Sometimes just powering off and Auto-Home seems to fix it, sometimes I have to do a Full Reset and then it's magically fixed. Hoping this gets fixed eventually in firmware.

This matches what I ran into. though I'm just plain confused at this point; the first dozen or so prints post 5.0-RC1 were fantastic, no printer issues at all. I printed about 12 hex wall panels without breaking a sweat, all the various tool holders and connectors, and several other projects.

However, starting about 8 prints back I started having sudden layer shifts; I assumed a loose nozzle blobbing a bit a grabbing the print as it got higher, as the first layers were almost always perfect (and fully adhered to the build plate). Switched to 15% cubic infill and tried avoiding crossing the perimeters, and prints stopped going spaghetti on me, though there were weird (and oddly consistent) blemishes in the finished prints. I've gone through a full set of calibration before that point, so I was starting to feel like things were better, so I went to print a third wall panel.

About 20% of the way in I got a BSoD:

I *really* liked 5.0-RC1 until this point, so I'm bummed if I have to roll it back; my next test will be to re-try the original non-IS profile g-code I used prior to updating to see if that succeeds. Failing that I'll likely downgrade back to 4.7.2 and re-do all of my printer calibration again to make sure it's not something that shook loose during all of the faster printing it was doing. 😛

Though some of the spaghetti does look like it printed fine for about 1mm, then the printer loses track of the Z level like  Mike Farough is describing in his post today, though I'm not sure if it's the same problem being described as yet. 😛

To follow up on my last note (still awaiting moderation); I don't know if the crash is responsible, but I was able to get a few more hex wall panels to print almost flawlessly using the IS profile and PETG after all... except for one thing I almost panicked about, but realized it was only cosmetic:

Which puzzled me as the remainder of the sides were smooth (with a few minor flaws on the first two prints):

Before I could post a poor pitiful me post to Prusa, I realized I was staring at a clue; what's one place that is by default consistent in a print?

Sure enough...

So I'm going to try the random seam placement and reslice to see if it clears up. Fortunately the design of the panels lets me face all the blemished sides inward, where only my OCD nature can fret over them. 😀
