Tightening Extruder and Incresing Temperature when Printing with IS

IS prints much faster, and I found I needed to tighten up the extruder to get rid of some underextrusion problems. I also increased the nozzle temperature by 10 degrees to allow easier flow. Stringing was very slight, which surprised me.

The results are pretty good, even with overhangs it worked correctly. This is with released FW 5.1.0 and Slicer 2.7.0.

I waited until the final releases and have had no issues The belts are untouched, pretty tight as they came from the factory build. I greased the rods as they made noise when moving so fast.

I started from the new profiles and made any updates I needed and increased the temperatures even above those, took my old stls, and made several more prints, including some with organic supports. The supports pulled away easily and cleanly.

Can I ask how much you tightened the extruder idler from stock? I’m running at higher temps and still getting under-extrusion gapping. Figure that’s my next culprit to investigate after making sure belts were tuned and temps were okay

I tightened it and raised temps until it printed correctly. For me, it was about 10 degrees hotter and a turn or so on the extruder.YMMV.

Following this, I was able to achieve improved results. I tightened the extruder idler 4 full rotations making it uncomfortably tight before it showed signs of improvement. When filament is removed however, I noticed it is sunk very deep and not flush with the plastic as the instructions from Prusa directly say to reference. It is also much harder to reinsert filament back into the gear after a filament switch.

I'd loosen that back off.  Although I would experiment with increasing the temperatures further.  Faster printing means less time spent in the meltzone for filament so bumping up temps is a common thing.

I'd agree 4 turns is a lot. Mine is still loose enough to work with TPU. In fact, I got pretty good results with TPU. There was not as much of a speedup however.

If you heat up the hot end as if to do a cold pull, how much force does it take to push the filament through by hand? I know what feels normal and when that changes, I look to clean it out or even change the PTFE tube.
