PETG Bed adhesion; fine until it's not.

Hello,

So I've had my mini+ for a couple of months and it has been largely faultless.

I've printed many parts without issue so far until last week.

I put a small job on, no bigger than the biggest job to date, and no smaller than the smallest.

The print stuck to the bed fine until about the 3rd or 4th layer of the print when it let go.

Up to now, the smooth PEI steel sheet with no additives has been PERFECT for adhesion, so I'm wondering whether:

a) the filament has gotten too damp

b) the smooth sheet has reached it's natural end

c) maybe I should have been using an additive all along and so far I've just been lucky...?

I can't believe that its a slicing error as the stock profile has been perfect so far so it should be perfect now... no??

Any advice would be appreciated!  Especially bed prep/care advice.

It's known that smooth PEI sheet isn't recommended for PETG. Yes, it can be used as long it's fairly new and perfectly clean.. but is not a long term solution -that's why textured sheet is recommended for PETG. Satin sheet seems to be solution for all kind of filaments, but I haven't it, so I can't say how much truth is in that.

I print (MK3) all my PETG on a smooth PEI sheet that's 3 years old and has done nearly 7,000 hours printing (split between two sides)  Get it really clean, add a fine layer of window cleaner and it's good to go.

So I've had my mini+ for a couple of months and it has been largely faultless.

So: about time for its first full maintenance ...  It will have run-in by now and some of the parameters might have settled.

Then run the calibrations again and you should be OK for several months.

Cheerio,

I print PETG on the textured sheet because (supposedly) it will stick too well to the smooth sheet.  My height setting for the textured sheet is 0.35 to 0.4 lower than for the smooth sheet (which I use with PLA).
