Nylon printing

Hello,

Has anybody tried to print Nylon using Prusa Mini?

I cant find the right settings. Tried with 150-160C hotend temperature, with 60-70-100C bed temperature. It dows not want to stick very well to the bed and is pretty likely jamming to the nozzle.

Nylon is from HobbyKing, PA-CX12.

Does anybody have a profile that is working? Maybe not only material configuration matters but also printing speeds?

I used Prusa PETG as a starting point for configuration. Maybe something else suits better?

According to Prusa's site ( https://www.prusa3d.com/material-guides/ ) you want to probably raise your nozzle temp to 240 degrees and your bed to 80-90 degrees

Not the right section, but i'm printing successful nylon (Aprintapro PA12) with nozzletemp 270degrees C and bedtemp 105degrees C with a MK3. Maybe it also works with lower temperatures, but 160degrees C nozzletemp is too low.

Start with 250C nozzle temp and go up. Consider using glue for better adhesion to bed.

The MK3 is explicitly stated to support Nylon unlike the Mini.

I would like to know why Nylon support is left off of the officially supported materials list for the Mini.

Perhaps there are some modifications that should be made for a successful+safe print.

Most likely because it's not advised to run 280C on a mini all the time (same like 300C on MK3).

What do you mean by all the time?

A certain duty cycle?

A number of hours at a stretch?

I just want to be able to print a drone frame out of Onyx every now and then with the Mini.

It's not necessarily unable to print nylon. It's that nylon isn't a "supported" material; meaning that Prusa doesn't provide filament profiles for nylon on the Mini. The Mini is targeted towards a different demographic than the MK3. It is what it is. 

I printed Taulmann Bridge on my MK3 with good results at ~250c on the hotend. I would think you could have similar results on a Mini.

Taulman-Bridge profile is listed under MINI in Prusa Slicer.

I got it almost printing with 170C hotend and 100C bed. It was important to limit the  speed to 25mm/s. I used also a 3mm raft. Everything is starting fine but after around 10minutes the nozzel will be always completly jamed.

I dont have that problem with ohter materials. What can cause the problem? Shall I rise the temperature even more?

Again according to that link I cited above, Prusa claims that particular nylon needs a much hotter temp to extrude. It might put more wear and tear on the mini but that's what the material seems to require.

Seriously? Spec sheet is telling you 240-260C, people are telling you here to go over 240C and you're still printing with 170C and asking for help?

I reached out to Prusa support directly and this was their response:

We haven't yet tested Nylon at the time of release.

You can print Nylon with MINI just fine, there is also a Slicer profile for it as well 🙂

The product page will be updated accordingly soon.

Just finished testing and can confirm that with the Taulman Bridge profile both Taulman Alloy 910 and Taulman Bridge are printing perfectly.

Bed temp 90C, Nozzle 255C
