Need some help with layer heights!

So I have a mini now after a 5 month wait and I'm gradually getting to grips with it! It's like magic setting a print off and watching it come to life before your eyes. I've been using the default settings in prusaslicer which I believe is 0.15mm layer height and I wanted to print some spare parts for the mini incase anything breaks! I notice Prusa says to print these at a 0.2mm layer height, if I were to print them at 0.15mm would they still be as dimensionaly accurate as the 0.2mm layer height?

They should be dimensionally accurate but may not be as strong. There is some discussion about layer height vs strength. Why not just choose the .2 layer height in Prusa Slicer? Pull down the print settings and choose 0.20 mm Quality or .20 mm Speed.

Regards,

Mark

The things that will break won't be the bits you can 3D print! So I would just enjoy printing other much more fun or useful things. 🙂

Like Mark mentioned it has to do with strength. The difference will not be visible or noticeable without any stress tests but it exists. With bigger layers you achieve higher strength. Same goes for larger diameter nozzles where you can reach even thicker layer heights.

For more information check CNC Kitchen article.
