Model says no supports, but...

I'm trying to print a milk crate model and it says no supports. I flipped it so the bottom is the bottom, the top is open. I did supports for the build plate but not enforcers. It's currently printing, what's going to happen when it gets to the handles?

While it's printing I've tried to add enforcers to a new slice file, but prusaslicer adds supports on all 4 sides. In the attached example, you can see the supports print right through a support blocker.

RE: Model says no supports, but...

Maybe I'm missing something but the TV model clearly says "Supports: Yes". When it gets to the handle you may get lucky and Prusaslicer can bridge it. I didn't bother to download the model and check. In this example I suspect the lattice on the sides will print just fine without supports but I'd paint supports on the top of the handle area to have supports for it instead of relying on bridging. Again, all of this said just from looking at your picture, not downloading the stl.

the supports print right through a support blocker.

Sure they will. Because that's not how support blockers work. Once a support is initiated from a surface, adding a support blocker below will not block the supports. You'll have to move the blocker higher to prevent PS from adding supports in that region in the first place. In general, I would argue you're better off using paint-on supports rather than relying on automated support creation.

I agree with fuchsr, and I think you may have the wrong idea about how supports work and how to use them. support blockers only work on sections of the model not from the build surface. If I had more time I would educate you on this, as I don't right now you should research this farther.

I will refer you to this thread for now, but it is not all inclusive.

I definitely have quite a bit to learn, seeing the resulting model because it printed great.

I will check out painted supports and read up on supports in general.

Thanks!!

@fiber0pti

Good idea, and please still feel free to ask questions if you have them.

Good luck
